Former Guyana U-19 all-rounder, 29-year-old Kellon Carmichael, has completed a successful third season in the English Leagues playing for Goring Cricket Club in the Sussex Premiere league and will represent the Georgetown Franchise in the next round of this year’s GCB/CGI three-day and 50-overs franchise League.
Carmichael, who played professionally in Trinidad for Aranguez and more recently for Moosai Sports Club, played 18 games for Goring Cricket Club, one of which was abandoned after 25 overs due to rain, took 55 wickets at an economy rate of 2.9, strike rate of 21.33 and an average of 10.60.
Carmichael took four 5-wicket hauls with a best of 6-25 against Mayfield Cricket Club to finish the season as the leading wicket-taker in the entire Sussex County. The Malteenoes Skipper scored 641 runs from 16 innings with two not outs at an average of 45.79 including two centuries and two fifties with a highest score of 177 against Stirlands CC.
He was the leading run scorer and ended in the top 10 of the leading run scorers in the Sussex County, Goring ended as League Champions. The committed and hard working Carmichael also made a significant contribution to Sabina CC being crowned League Champions scoring 278 runs from nine innings including two not outs at an average of 39.71 with two fifties including a highest score of 81 against Aztecs CC.
In his10 games for Sabina, Carmichael took 30 wickets at an economy rate of 3.77, strike rate of 15.40 and an average of 12.23 with a best of 5-23 against Centurion CC to finish joint highest wicket taker in the league.
Carmichael told Kaieteur Sport yesterday that he is eagerly looking forward to taking the field tomorrow at Lusignan for the City Franchise which oppose East Coast and sits in fourth place after two rounds with 19.1 points.
In 2007 in St. Kitts, Carmichael played three Regional Under-19 games to help Guyana to their twelfth three-day title and four 50-over games including the Final at Warner Park when the South Americans were beaten by Jamaica.
He made his senior Inter-County debut in the 2008 limited overs tournament for Demerara before representing the Rest team in the 50-over Inter-County competition in 2009 and three matches in the 2010 Inter-County T20 competition but failed to make the Guyana Amazon Warriors side which represented the West Indies in the 2010 T20 Champions League in South Africa.
His first season in English conditions was in 2013 before playing there again the next year. However, last year, with his ambition being still to represent his County at the senior 50-over and First-Class levels, he missed the English season.
”I took a break from all the traveling and also wanted to be at home for all the GCB franchise league matches to give myself a chance of staking a claim for national selection,” said Carmichael. He did not gain favor with the National Selectors resulting in his returning to England this year.(Sean Devers)
