[www.inewsguyana.com] – A 34 – year – old man of Princes Street, Lodge, Georgetown, was remanded to prison by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry on Monday, April 27 for the murder of Patricia ‘Patsy’ Sanasie .

Richard Stanton was not required to plead to the indictable offence, which alleged that on January 12, 2015 at Atlantic Gardens, East Coast Demerara he murdered the 43 – year – old businesswoman.

Stanton will make his next court appearance at the Sparendaam Magistrates’ Court on May 04.

The allegations surrounding his arrest stated that on the night of the incident, the woman along with her daughter had returned home from church, when she left the car to open the gate. This was when the lone gunman confronted her and fired at least four shots into her body, thereby causing her death.

After several months of investigations, the police finally received enough evidence against the accused to charge him with this offence.

On January 12, 2015 the mother of three was killed as she made her way home from church at her Atlantic Gardens, East Coast of Demerara residence.

The woman was shot several times in front her residence by a lone gunman. Eyewitnesses reported that a “big built gunman” exited from a sliver colored Raum and discharged four shots at the woman while she attempted to open her gate seconds after arriving home.

Her younger brother, Vishnu Persaud had provided evidence that point to a close relative being involved in a plot to execute the woman.

Persaud at a press conference on February 11 provided media operatives with a recording that is purportedly the voice of his now dead sister and a would-be assassin discussing rescinded plans to execute the woman.

Persaud said that after the recording was initially taken, his sister made a report at the Sparendaam Magistrates’ Court and the man on the other end of the recording was arrested by police.

However, he was subsequently released after being held for 72 hours at the police station.

In February of last year, both Persaud and his sister were accused of contracting killers to execute her husband Deonarine Sanasie. This was after there was a failed execution bid on the life of the businessman also known as ‘Monkey Ram’.

Sanasie, once owned the Academy of Professional Studies on the East Bank of Demerara.
