A man, who allegedly made death threats to Leader of the Opposition Bharrat Jadgeo and other members of the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) on Facebook, was arrested yesterday.

Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum confirmed yesterday afternoon that the man, who has been identified as Tameshwar Beekham was taken into custody yesterday at Springlands, Corentyne, Berbice.

If there is enough evidence to link Beekham to the crime he can be charged under the Racial Hostility Act with attempting to incite excitement, hostility or ill-will on grounds of race.

Beekham had previously told Stabroek News that he was employed with the Berbice Anti-Smuggling Squad (BASS) and was once a ‘wanted man’ for three years, but because of his money and influence he could not be arrested.

He had said that in total he would have scammed people of about $100 million, which was all wasted and short lived, but said he was happy that he was not in possession of any of the money as he wanted to make a fresh start without guilt.

Beekham had said that he was sentenced to a total of 94 years in prison on the scores of charges, but since the sentences ran concurrently he was only required to serve seven years and three months.

He was sentenced on August 26, 2005 and released from prison on November 24, 2012.

Less than two months ago, a woman, Bibi Safoora Salim, who allegedly made death threats against President David Granger on Facebook was charged with attempting to excite hostility and ill will.

She pleaded not guilty and was placed on $200,000 bail and the matter was set for trial.

Yes.  Let's from the PNC squaddies about how this man had every right to do what he did, that Jagdeo deserve it, etc, etc.  Personally, I think he is a mental health patient, and will soon be pardoned by Granger.

I think you got this wrong....lots of you PPPites were up in arms (rightly so)about the lady who threatened Granger...you should also be up in arms about this

Most Govt supporters on here criticized the Govt when the lady was arrested...

That lady was not a convict.  This guy seems unhinged or criminal.

What if Indians feel they are better than blacks and whites how do we express it without being convicted? I'm sure they don't think the Indians are equal to them. The premises of the law is unjustified. It looks like the gun is the only thing that can protect us.

OK Bibi I know that you are enraged that Granger shows that he is a fair man.

You will note that NO ONE supports this type of behavior, whether the target is Granger or Jagdeo.  So cease trying to make a story where none exists.

Thank Granger for saving your man's life.

I will also argue that there is a difference between this man and the woman. She made a joke, thinking that she had privacy.  Guyanese can be colorful in the language that we use, and we aren't necessarily being literal in how we speak.

This man made specific threats, with specific actions that HE planned to under take. Now he might be a loony bin, but his threats should still be investigated.

There is a big difference between Bibi and this man who is making threats.  He is a career criminal who has served jail time in the past.  She is not.  I do not expect the same outcome from their arrests.

A-HA, now I understand how things work. You tief the cash, spend it like there's no tomorrow then when all the money's gone you are not guilty, VIOLA! That banna must have been trained by the PPP.
