Far-right Norwegian mass murderer Anders Behring Breivik has won a place at a university in the European country.

Breivik, who killed 77 people on a politically motivated murderous rampage in 2011, will study political science at the University of Oslo, reports the BBC.

He will have no contact with staff or students and will study from his cell.

Breivik, 36, was sentenced to 21 years in jail for carrying out Norway's worst massacre since World War II.

His sentence can be extended if it is considered that he remains a danger to society.

He bombed central Oslo then went on a deadly rampage at a Labour Party youth camp being held on Utoeya Island.

Breivik said he was acting against a Marxist-Islamic takeover of Europe.

Inmates in Norway have a right to pursue higher education.

The university has students whose family members were killed by Breivik, reports the BBC

New book says Norwegian mass killer apologized to mom for 77 deaths

Anders Breivik, who was convicted of killing 77 people in a bomb attack and mass shooting in Oslo in 2011, allegedly apologized to his mother, Wenche, before she died of cancer, according to 'The Mother,' which features the woman's interviews with journalist Marit Christensen.

He has never once apologized to the families of the victims he slaughtered, but Nazi nut Norwegian mass killer Anders Behring Breivik said sorry to his mom.

A just published biography of the killer reveals that a handcuffed-Breivik hugged his mother, Wenche, on a jail visit and apologized for "ruining your life".

The show of compassion took place in March this year, according to the book, "The Mother."

It is based on the transcript of hours of conversations which took place between Wenche and journalist Marit Christensen.

The mass killer slaughtered his victims in a bomb attack and mass shooting attack in Norway in July 2011.

He initially bombed government buildings in the capital Oslo, killing eight before heading to the island of Utoya to shoot 69 others dead, many of them teenagers, at a camp held by the left-wing Labour Party. Breivik was sentenced to 21 years in prison, the maximum amount in Norway.

He has said that he feels no remorse for the murders and would do the same again.

The book also reveals that his mother "hated" her son after she heard what he had done, but afterwards felt guilt for such a reaction because "you can never stop loving your child".

It also shows that she had prepared a meal of spaghetti bolognese on the day of the slaughter, which went cold as she waited for her son to come home, The Telegraph newspaper reports.
