Injunctive Order to Lowe could be reviewed today
CONSEQUENT to an ex parte application by Leader of the United Force, Valerie Garrido-Lowe, seeking an injunction to restrain Mr. Manzoor Nadir from holding himself as Leader of the United Force and Presidential Candidate of that party, Justice James Bovell-Drakes has granted an injunction in favour of the applicant.
But the injunctive Order which was entered on September 7 has been adjourned to today at 15:00hrs, when it is expected that the matter will become inter-partes and the defendant will seek to have the injunction discharged.
Defendants named by the plaintiff are Ismail Muhammad, chairman of the party and Manzoor Nadir, the former leader, who, it is alleged, had nominated Garrido-Lowe to the post.
In her affidavit in support of her summons, Valerie Garrido-Lowe, of 255 Campbell Street, Newtown, Georgetown, said that she became a member of the United Force approximately 15 years ago; and in the year 2006, a member of its Executive Committee.
The affidavit added, βThe United Force is a Political Party within the Cooperative Republic of Guyana, and its operation is governed by the Constitution of the United Force.
βThat on the 29th May, 2011, a special members conference was held at Unity House and the agenda for the meeting comprised of two items, namely:-
(1) Whether The United Force should contest the 2011 General and Regional Elections; and
(2) To choose a Presidential Candidate and a Prime Ministerial Candidate for the said election.
βThat as evidenced from the minutes of the meeting held on the 29th May, 2011, I was nominated by the 2nd Defendant, Manzoor Nadir, for the position of Presidential Candidate and duly unanimously elected by the members present as the Leader and Presidential Candidate of the United Force, after the second defendant Manzoor Nadir declined the nomination for the position of Presidential Candidate and also relinquished the position of Leader of the party.β
Lawyers representing the plaintiff are Mr. Fitz Peters, Mrs. Abiola Wong-Inniss, and Mr. Christopher Ram
Further hearing continues today.
