Could it be that SOME algebra texts are incorrect? Unless PEMDAS is not applicable anymore, then any damn answer is correct.

PEMDAS is applicable, but brackets take precedence in PEMDAS, and some view 2(1+2) = 6

Specific process == brackets must be solved first.

That is = 6/2x3, which then becomes 6/6 = 1

Incorrect. The order of operation is 6 divided by 2 =3 then multiply by 3 gives you 9.

When you are asked to expand, it will mean doing everything within the parenthesis and then remove the parenthesis.

Parenthesis also mean multiplication.

In a question like this 3 (2 + 5), the parenthesis means to multiply, however, you won't multiply until you complete the operation which is 2 + 5, which will become 7 and then it would be multiplied by 3.

Stupid man, multiplication and division are on the same level. When they come together in the same equation, then left to right takes precedence. 

Don't you know your left hand from your right hand?

 

Go read the PEMDAS rules.

You reached up to here correctly - That is = 6/2x3, 

PEMDAS states that if you have multiplication and division in the equation, they are on the same level and you must proceed from left to right. So in this case, left first is 6/2 = 3 and then 3X3 = 9. 

Go back to school and learn PEMDAS.

6/2(1+2) =6/2(3) =6/2*3 = 6/6 =1

Parentheses first means you solve what's within the parentheses first.

2(3) is the same as 2X3

So if you have 6/2X3 you have to do the left side first.

 

Go look at what you wrote = 6/2*3 = 6/6 =1

6/2X3 - multiplication and division are on the same level so left to right comes first. 6/2 must be done first.

6/2*3 = 3*3 =9. After the parentheses, then the left to right rule applies to multiplication and division.

You're correct up to step 4.

When multiplication and division are together, they are on the same level. When they are on the same level, you work left to right. Leftmost operation is 6/2 = 3. Then 3X3 = 9. 

Those are PEMDAS rules. Unfortunately no one goes by DG rules in the real world.

In the absence of the brackets and since multiplication and division is at the same level, the left to rule applies. The answer is 9.

one have to look how the problem is written ,does the two below have the same method to solve ??? it's tough to type the first correctly,hopefully you can gather what i meant.

Unfortunately his presentation didn't answer my question,

you are aware i meant a set of numbers above a line and a different set of numbers below the line,although it meant division where this symbol [ / ] is used,the approach to solve is different when this symbol [ ÷ ] is used.

I saw these problems on FB,lots of folks got it wrong.

Using [PEMDAS] 6/2(1+2) =6/6 =1

Then the operation is 6/2(1+2) =6/2*3. Next step is where the left to right rule applies for multiplication and division. 6/2*3 = 3*3=9.
