Police are investigating a theft at the office of Georgetown Mayor Ubraj Narine.
The perpetrator (s) stole a file containing documents relating to the Local Government Commission. When contacted, the Mayor told the News Room Monday that the theft occurred two weeks ago at City Hall.
“Yes the office was [broken] into,” the Mayor told the News Room via telephone.
The Mayor said a few “important files” were stolen.
“The file entails of a few letters to the Local Government Commission and so forth,” Mayor Narine said.
The Mayor, however, said he does not know how many persons were involved and is relying on the Police to conduct their investigation.
“It is something I kept quiet, and when my vehicle got into accident, it didn’t look nice so I kept it quiet.”
He said the perpetrator (s) gained entry into his office via the window in his washroom.
For additional security, the Mayor has since decided to “bar up” the windows since his office is not outfitted with security cameras.
The Mayor said this is the first time an incident like this has occurred since his tenure as Mayor. (Isanella
