One of Guyana’s leading businessmen and Chairman of Demerara Distillers Limited (DDL), Dr. Yesu Persaud, met with President Donald Ramotar on Tuesday at the Office of the President.

The courtesy call was to discuss the current business environment in Guyana and ways it could be improved.

Dr. Persaud, whose role in the development of the private sector has been hailed, has been heavily criticized by former President Bharrat Jagdeo, for comments made over concessions granted to Queens Atlantic during their controversial acquisition of the Sanata Textile complex.

People have the right to criticize whether they are from the opposition, civic society, private sector, or even in the gov't. We must not always view criticism whether harsh or mild as a rejection of everything that's good for the country. It's not a perfect world we are living in. There will be disagreements over policies and practices of the gov't. Donald is playing diplomat here.
