These lifelong lovebirds celebrated their 80th anniversary on June 25 at their assisted living facility, Pilgrim Manor, in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
Donald and Vivian Hart, both 99 years old, ate cake and reminisced about their 1937 wedding day with their closest family and friends.
Donald Hart recalled their ceremony being a βsmall wedding,β celebrating alongside his bride with the song β'When Your Hair Has Turned to Silverβ by Perry Como.
βNow we fulfilled the song we've been singing. It seems to have come so suddenly,β Donald Hart told ABC News of the sentimental lyrics, βWhen your hair has turned to silver I will love you just the same.β
βIs my hair silver now?β Vivian Hart playfully questioned while touching her hair.
She explained that βmusic is specialβ to them, which made the spontaneous moment when Donald Hart serenaded her with a rendition of Bing Crosbyβs βLet Me Call You Sweetheartβ at their anniversary celebration even more magical.
"I used to sing it quite a bit when we were going together,β Donald Hart recalled of their relationship. βIt was the song that came to mind on our anniversary."
Their great-granddaughter, Andi Ripley, said it was really special to be able to honor her great-grandparents on their big day after all theyβve done for the family.
βItβs special because of how much they have poured into their familyβs life,β Ripley, 28, said. βThere are no strangers to their family so being able to honor them for the years theyβve hosted us is just really sweet. My grandma always says βThis is a little piece of heavenβ every time the family is together.β
The Hartsβ secret to a successful marriage?
βMake sure the relationship is honest. Try to do what's right in God's eyes,β said Donald Hart. "It's good to laugh together. Have fun with each other, but don't make jokes at the expense of the other.β
"Always be sure to put God first in your life,β Vivian Hart added. βBe always willing to help and stay alert to your spouse. We have prayer every day together in the morning and the night. We don't keep our mind on our troubles.β
Congratulations to the couple on their 80th wedding anniversary. I don't think this generation can mesh up to eight decades of togetherness.
Is sheer slackness goin on with dem ole people?
On a serious note, a big congrats to them both.
Sheer slackness you say, Cain?
It is indeed wonderful to read about these events.
Hehehe. Its like living in the same house or street all your life and you never get the chance to see or feel another space. Or like taking the same route for 80yrs. As they say..."variety is the spice of life"

Variety is the spice of life Cain but, in my view, not with married life.
