Defending champs Chase Academy make dominant start St. Rose’s and Buxton United also win on day 1

The Nestle Milo under-18 football tournament kicked off yesterday at the Ministry of Education (MOE) ground on Carifesta Avenue with three matches. The three-time defending champions, Chase Academic Foundation, contested the feature match of the day and were back to their usual overwhelming form and ripped Carmel Secondary apart with a 12-0 drubbing.
Chase had nine players registering goals on their behalf, inclusive of an own goal from the opposition. Captain Jeremy Garrett, Malachi Adonis and Stephon Reynolds; all bagged braces. Rondell Peters, Nicholas MacArthur, Isaiah Rich, Kevin Padmore and Marcus Watson each bagged one goal in the rout.
After the one-sided demonstration, Chase’s coach Vurlon Mills stated that the reason for the big victory was because his team executed all the plans they had discussed during the week.
In this 2018 edition of the tournament, the Ministry of Public Health (MOPH) has thrown their support behind the event which is being played under the theme, “There is no excuse for violence.”
In the opening match, Buxton Youth Developers overcame a 2-0 deficit against The Business School to eventually win 4-2. Buxton were led with goals from three Shamars; Shamar Kingston bagged a brace, while Singh and Scott added one each. Jermaine Padmore had netted a brace after only 15 minutes of play in the first half.
Meanwhile, the second game of the action packed afternoon that witnessed a huge turnout despite intermittent weather, St. Rose’s High who is mentored by Coach Calvin Allen, settled Cummings Lodge with a 2-0 victory in their group game. Akeem Forde (21st minute) and Shane France (45th minute) both scored within the second half in the comfortable victory for St. Rose’s High.
The tournament continues today with three matches at the same venue.
