Minister of National Security and Prominent attorney at law, Khemraj Ramjattan, has been making the rounds across the country as he strives to employ a number of different strategies in his field of work. One such strategy is to keep members of the community, especially youths, gainfully occupied so there would be less idle time. Over the past few weeks the Minister, who hails from the Upper Corentyne, East Berbice area, has been busy in that domain keeping meetings as well as spearheading the formation of a number of Community Groups and Community Policing Groups in the area. He has also been fulfilling a number of promises he made during earlier visits. Recently he distributed sports gear and to residents and members of clubs. Members of the Corriverton United Softball cricket team were the beneficiary of a large quantity of softballs and cricket bats. Members of a junior cricket team were also the recipient of softball and cricket bats. Minister Ramjattan also presented a number of chess sets to some youngsters who are interested in playing the game and had approached him on an earlier visit for assistance. Promising Skeldon Community Centre Cricket Club and Upper Corentyne all-rounder Sherwin Murray was also a beneficiary of the Ministerβs Benevolence and largesse as he was presented with a full set of cricket gear including bat, pad and guards. The Minister reasoned that if more persons, especially the youths, are assisted in getting involved in sports and community activities, there would be less idle time and opportunity for persons to be involved in all kinds of Social ills and illicit activities. He told the recipients of the gear to care them and put them to full use so that they could be of benefit to all. He urged them to practice hard so that he could challenge them on his return to the area. (Samuel Whyte)
