Flooding averted in section of Queenstown after culverts cleared
Serious flooding was avoided after the Ministry of Public Infrastructure and City Hall took action to clear two culverts in Queenstown, Georgetown this morning. Community Coordinator Neilson McKenzie informed GINA that the two culverts, which drained the areas surrounding to the Demerara Cricket Club Ground and Herdmanston Lodge, were found to be blocked with debris including discarded builder’s waste. With assistance from City Hall, the culverts were cleared and water receded quickly into the Lamaha Street Canal, McKenzie explained.

The work is part of the Ministry of Public Infrastructure’s mandate to respond quickly to ensure that communities are adequately drained, particularly in light of the prevailing inclement weather conditions.

Guyanese have to stop littering.

Take a close look at Gt, very close look. Why is there so much garbage ?

Why is there no Garbage problem in places like Berbice with the exception of New Amsterdam ?

You figure it out.

Because in Berbice except New Amsterdam the people can burn their garbage in their backyard or throw it in a trench and feed vegetable peel and plantain skins to their livestock. In Georgetown not everyone can burn garbage in yard and few folks have chickens and cows to absorb plantain skin and eddoe peel and such waste. Moreover, visitors from Essequibo and Demerara and Berbice also contribute their fair share of litter in Georgetown. Lastly, the city council failed to clean up the overwhelming mess.
