Miss Venezuela takes coveted Miss Universe 2013 title – but Guyana’s Katherina Roshana acquits herself admirably

IT was an evening of extravagant entertainment when Gabriela Isler from Venezuela was crowned Miss Universe 2013 at Crocus City Hall in Moscow, Russia.
And while Guyana’s Katherina Roshana may not have made it to the top five, her fellow countrymen could not have asked for a better ambassador; her sterling performance at this year’s Miss Universe Pageant would have left a lasting impression on her 80-odd colleague contestants, and is likely to be remembered for a very long time to come, by practically everyone with whom she came into contact while in Moscow.
It was her resilience and strong Caribbean drive at activities leading up to the actual pageant that made the Guyanese presence felt more that ever at this event. It was also her captivating beauty and impressively positive personality that won her the Miss Best Headshot Prize in the competition.
Looking at the website scores, our endearing Katherina was also listed in the top five of the People’s Choice Award segment.
Katherina Roshana may not have secured the coveted crown for Guyana, but her splendid participation has paved the way for Guyanese to believe that our homeland can set the pace to ultimate victory in the future.
Our Guyanese beauty shone remarkably at each leg of the competition, particularly at the swimsuit and evening gown segments.

The 2013 MISS UNIVERSE Pageant was staged last night for the first time in Moscow, Russia, at Crocus City Hall, just months before the opening of the Sochi Winter Olympics.
This year’s contest featured women from approximately 90 countries, all bidding to be crowned Miss Universe 2013. The pageant is watched by an estimated one billion television viewers around the world, making it one of the highest rated live events.
Spain’s Patricia Yurena Rodriguez placed first runner-up, while Constanza Baez of Ecuador came in second runner up, and the Filipino beauty, Ariella Arida third runner-up. In the fourth runner-up position was Brazil’s Jakelyne Oliveira.
