The fallout from Papa John’s founder John Schnatter’s admission that he used the n-word continued this week, as several MLB teams suspended their ties with the pizza chain. Schnatter, 56, apologized for his comments Wednesday and resigned as chairman of the board of the company, following a Forbes report about remarks he made in May. Schnatter acknowledged the report was accurate.
The Washington Nationals on Friday became at least the sixth MLB team to suspend their promotional deals with the chain, saying in a statement that they “do not condone discrimination of any kind.”
“Therefore, we have suspended our partnership with Papa John’s,” the statement continued. “However, we remain supportive of our local operators who have been fantastic partners for more than eleven years.”
