My friend unless we are prepared to accept that the best years for Guyana was under Hoyte and Cheddie we are just fooling ourselves.  Some thought that Granger would be like Hoyte, but we're conned.  Granger = Burnham.

The PPP was in fact headed right back to where the PNC left it.  Increasing debt and an untransformed economy.  Guysuco sucking US$500 million in subsidies in addition to US$400 million in debt.  All because of their stubbornness and corruption.

Couple that with levels of corruption that made Burnham look like a choir boy and a culture of para mllitia violence.

The notion that any one would defend the PPP is baffling.  Any conversation of which party is better, APNU/AFC or the PPP, is useless. Guyana is headed over the falls and only Guyanese who live there can stop it.

Really. When Hoyte was able to successfully implement his ERP which led to privatization of state owned corporations, and the freeing up of various controls the economy grew by 6% in 1991, 7% in 1992 and the impact of his ERP continued until 1996.

Growth thereafter slowed dramatically. From the time that your hero Jagdeo took over between 2000 and 2005 the economy declined in real terms 3 out of 6 years, with real growth being less than 2% in 2 of those years, with only one year, 2001 showing more than 2% in ONE year.

Luckily gold prices soared subsequent to that and saved the PPP from presiding over decline.  And the PPP managed the decline even though the economy had been liberalized, thanks to Hoyte.

I can wonder what opinion that Jagan had when Hoyte began to dismantle the complete domination of the economy by the state.  At that time Jagan was still a Marxist Leninist and an open admirer of the Soviet Union.
