Most unfortunate PPP will not be included in budget consultation
THE People’s Progressive Party (PPP) notes the recent pronouncements in sections of the media, by Finance Minister, Winston Jordan, who is reported to have said there will be no consultations with the PPP with respect to the 2015 National Budget preparation.On Monday, July 20, 2015, Mr. Jordan is reported to have said “The time for laying the budget as stipulated by the Constitution is already short. And if a hand is to be extended to the PPP and it is dragged out, then I would be under fire.”
This statement is most unfortunate.
The Party wishes to remind that while the PPP/Civic was in Government, it never excluded the Opposition from budget consultations.
As a matter of fact, only last year, Finance Minister, Dr. Ashni Singh, published several emails, inviting Mr. Carl Greendige of APNU, to budget consultations.
Those invitations were not responded to, nor were excuses given by Mr. Greenidge for not being able to attend. This position taken by the APNU+AFC Government stands in glaring contradiction to the statement of President David Granger during his address to the opening of the 11th Parliament, where he spoke glowingly about his gGvernment’s resolve for “inclusionary democracy.”
