Neurologist, Dr.Walter Ramsahoye on Wednesday rejected allegations against Muslim Scholar, Neziaam Ali that he sexually molested several boys because he is impotent.
Ramsahoye, who examined the man and perused his medical records, said it would be improper for him to divulge the “multiplicity of illnesses” that afflict the man said to be in his 30s. The doctor, however, insisted that the man could not have committed the acts for which he the Mufti has been accused.
Medical examinations conducted on several boys show that they have been anally abused. The boys are now with the Child Care and Protection Agency of the Ministry of Human Services.
“To say that he committed those acts is akin to saying that an individual without arms could use a cutlass to attack policemen,” said Ramsahoye in a letter to the media. ““I wish to state publicly that the Muslim Scholar is totally and absolutely innocent and there is no one who can challenge that statement,” he added.
Demerara Waves Online News (www.demwaves.com ) was told by well-placed sources that the man has been suffering from nephritic syndrome and diabetes that have led to his impotence. Sources say the man’s medical condition dates backs to 1996 when he was first hospitalized while in South Africa. Requiring a kidney transplant and facing a 30 percent chance of survival, he has also sought medical advice from doctors in India and Pakistan. Currently, he said to be receiving treatment from the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC).
Defence Lawyer, Vic Puran confirmed to Demerara Waves Online News that he has received a medical report from a doctor, stating that man is impotent but he declined to confirm who the practitioner was. “I have received a medical report from a doctor who is the authority on those matters in Guyana and he has said that the patient could not have sex with a girl, boy, man or woman because he is impotent.”
“It is utterly repugnant and disgraceful that the Police officers who were tasked with investigating the complaints did not ascertain from the GPHC which he attends, his medical history which would have exonerated him,” said Ramsahoye in his letter.
The British-trained well-known medical doctor instead urged police to prosecute the mothers of the children with allegedly counseling and procuring the children involved in making false allegations. The children should also be prosecuted, he said.
Lawyers for the accused, armed with the medical advice, could soon ask that the charges be dropped against Ali.
He is currently on GUY$250,000 bail for allegedly engaging in sexual penetration of a boy under the age of 12 years between December 5 and and 31 at D Field Sophia. He was February 9 re-arrested to assist police with investigations into two other counts of a similar offence. He has since been released from custody and would reappear at the Sparendaam Magistrates’ Court on February 28 in connection with the three charges.
Ali has been sent on leave by the Central Islamic Organisation of Guyana (CIOG) pending the outcome of the court case.
