MV Sabanto slams into Supenaam Stelling
damaged ferry will be out of service until further notice
Earlier this evening (Tuesday July 25, 2016), Motor Vessel Sabanto collided with the Supenaam Stelling, causing extensive damages to the ferry. I News understands that there were no fatalities or injuries as a result of this accident.
However, due to the damage caused, the MV Sabanto will be out of service until further notice. According to a statement from the Ministry of Public Infrastructure, the MV Malali and MV Makouria will instead provide service for the Parika to Supenaam route, and vice versa. This service will occur as per normal, commencing at 5:00am.
INews understands that a team from the Transport and Harbours Department (T&HD) has been deployed to assess the extent of the damages.
The Ministry of Public Infrastructure and the Management of T&HD apologise for any inconvenience caused.
