Head of the Special Organised Crime Unit (SOCU) Sydney James has confirmed that former Attorney General Anil Nandlall has been arrested and will be charged this afternoon in connection with the then government’s purchase of law books for his personal use.

James told Stabroek News that Nandlall is presently at SOCU’s Camp Street office from where he will be transported to court to answer the charges.

Nandlall has already said that he has committed no wrong doing and that the purchases were made following an oral arrangement with the then president Donald Ramotar.

These thugs running the country will do anything to humiliate and incriminate Indos, and tarnish the reputation of PPP top brass.

Y'all Piss Pot Porters were saying that the government needs to back up their charges that the PPP were corrupt. They're doing just that and now you're complaining. Look, just go and make some coffee for your boss and stop writing counce.

Another Jagdeo loyalist who is blaming his thieving on Ramotar. They do seem to have a plan to blame the widespread PPP corruption on him.

Mr.T

Bhai

I am calling a spade a spade and clearly stating that this government screwed up the goodwill shown towards them whey they took office.

The stench of their racism, corruption and incompetence is intolerable.

The policy is to harass Indos. It is now officially blackman for blackman worse that the Thugs and Dictators Burnham and Hoyte.

Burnham was RIGHT to enslave some DUMB and STUPID Guyanese. A 2000 dollars Law Books is all the corruption they can come up with and I doubt they will win a prosecution. But look how the FILTH HEADS jumping for joy( or should I say SLAVES)

They (AFC/PNC) stole billions of taxpayers money. They fete, give themselves fat pay raises and are now killing the goose that laid the golden eggs.

It will backfire on them in 2020. Patience is the key word, these scumbags will be kicked out of office.

I read today that the police is refusing to issue permits for peaceful GAWU protests and showed up with cameras and video cameras to harass and intimidate Indo sugar workers.

These scumbags are worse than Burnham.

What a shameless bunch.

Guyana has dropped tree points with freedom of press since these racist scumbags took office. Yes three points since these scumbags took over. It will get worse but I urge Indos to remain patient and kick these scumbags out in 2020.

They claimed that the PPP was stealing $ 30 Billions per year, therefore they stole $ 60 billions so far because they cannot account for it.

It's political repression.

It is quickly become a very oppressive one. They are dividing the country like Burnham did, Blacks for Blacks. Their policy is to screw Indos.

Update: Nandlall charged over law books.

April 27, 2017 Source

Former Attorney General Anil Nandlall was this afternoon charged in a city court with fraudulently taking or converting law books for his personal use.

Nandlall was later released on his own recognizance and will return to court on May 9.

Head of the Special Organised Crime Unit (SOCU) Sydney James had earlier confirmed that Nandlall had been arrested and would be charged this afternoon in connection with the then government’s purchase of law books for his personal use.

Nandlall has already said that he has committed no wrong doing and that the purchases were made following an oral arrangement with the then president Donald Ramotar.

Question: Was these particular books part of what the government purchased prior to Nandalal becoming AG. Was Nandalal buying these personally prior to becoming AG. Do any of these two trends lend any credence to Nandalal assertion that they were part of his remuneration?

Django,

Why the PPP did not prosecute PNC leaders in 1992 for corruption and dictatorial rule?

Probably it was a daunting task for Cheddi,he was more concerned to move the country forward,we also would have seen a National Front Gov't. his time was short lived, after that the current crop was free to fatten themselves, the lure was too much and they became greedy, there is no doubt about their pilfering,i feel a little sorry for them, the line have to drawn, corruption have to be stamped out, that curse thwarts foreign investments in developing countries.

All this over a few books? This is overkill. Why doesn't Nandalall just return the damn books? If he had a verbal agreement with the PRESIDENT at that time, that should suffice. "Ramo said it was ok, here are your books." End of story.

What i heard he was subscribing and received a few, after he became AG the subscription was paid by the Gov't,in theory all the other books belongs to the Gov't,the amount was around G$ 1.5 m,it may not seem a lot,it's tax payers money.

There is a passage in the Qur'an that instructs that agreement should be written down so that there are no future misunderstandings. Nandalal is not a Muslim and may not have seen that passage but he is a lawyer and should know better than to rely on an oral agreement.

The case against Nandlall will be dismissed. There is a letter from his former boss ex-President Donald Ramotar stating that the State purchase of the disputed law reports was part of the former AG's salary-and-benefits package. If Ramotar addresses the court as a witness and confirms same, it will be bonus to Nandlall.

In retrospect yes but I doubt he ever expected Uncle Ramo to lose the election.

Nandlall said that it was an oral agreement (i.e. he gave Ramotar a BJ). But Ramotar now saying he has a written agreement? Something ain't right.

Nandlall's legal team can get a sworn affidavit from Ramotar testifying to that aspect of the agreement for accepting the ministerial job, verbal or written. Whether what Ramotar did was immoral or unethical is not the issue yet. That will come later.
