Dear Editor,

I read a letter published in your letter column on 29.4.2015, written by Janet Bulkan. That letter contains the following sentence:

“Attorney General, Anil Nandlall’s medical expenses which were met by the taxpayer totalled 4.9 million dollars.”

The Head of the Presidential Secretariat clarified, publicly, that medical expenditure for a Cabinet member as well as several constitutional post holders, including, members of the Judiciary, Leader of the Opposition, inter alia, is an entitlement which predates the People’s Progressive Party/Civic Administration.

Notwithstanding, I repaid to the Accountant General of Guyana, the sum approved by Cabinet, as medical expenses in respect of me, to which the letter writer refers.

I made this information public since the latter part of 2014. Unfortunately, the misinformation continues, unabated.

I hope that this brief missive will finally set the record straight.

Yours faithfully,

Mohabir Anil Nandlall

Attorney General

Minister of Legal Affairs.

This chap's wife admitted that he took the money illegally on facebook. She admitted that when she found out she was furious and she demanded he repay the money.

If this was a legitimate expense as he is claiming why didn't Sam Hinds say that in parliament? and why was he then debating this point with Gildharie on the phone? Why was did he and his wife have to go and meet with Glen Lall if this is as he claims a standard medical expense?

What was this expense for? do other Guyanese citizens and public servants have access to this kind of medical care? Is this available to other Guyanese?

We are still confused over the $4.9M medical expenses issue regardng Attorney General Anil Nandlall.

Here is what he said today in a letter to SN claiming once again to wish to “set the record straight”:

“I repaid to the Accountant General of Guyana, the sum ($4.9M) approved by Cabinet, as medical expenses in respect of me…I made this information public since the latter part of 2014. Unfortunately, the misinformation continues, unabated.

But wait this is what he said in a press statement on November 3 2014:

“I wish to set the record straight on that issue. The reference relates to the reimbursement I received for monies I expended on medical treatment. This reimbursement was approved by Cabinet in a written Cabinet decision dated 20 June 2013.This is, and historically has been, an entitlement of every member of Cabinet long before my appointment.

So let us try and get it straight once and for all: he paid for the medical expenses out of his own pocket was reimbursed by the government and then reimbursed the reimbursement?
