Six matches were played on the opening two days of “Road to Mecca IV” which serves as the National Club Basketball Championships being contested exclusively at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall (CASH). The first day, Friday December 1st, had three matches bouncing off.
The defending champions Bounty Colts of Georgetown Amateur Basketball Association (GABA) made a grand start to their campaign after blowing out Linden Amateur Basketball Association’s (LABA) Half Mile Bulls by 39 points, 94-55. Shane Webster led the champions with a double-double (18 points and 14 rebounds).
LABA champions, Victory Valley Royals exacted revenge on GABA’s Plaisance Guardians when Harrold Adams scored a game high 20 points to lead Royals to a massive 82-59 victory.
Completing the winners’ row on Friday were Berbice Amateur Basketball Association’s (BABA) lone club in the championship, Rose Hall Jammers that defeated GABA’s Dynas Ravens 64-60. It was a good start for the club that expressed confidence in overthrowing Colts as national champions.
Sunday results saw GABA’s Pacesetters wiping the floor with LABA’s Retrieve Raiders 85-57. The rout was led by Sherland Legal who scored a game high 24 points.
Dyna’s Ravens bounced back on game night two after losing to Rose Hall Jammers, to defeat LABA’s Amelia Ward Jets 82-78. Ravens’ Ryan Stephney sunk an amazing 30 points in that win.
Victory Valley Royals are the only team to have two wins and they completed the feat after adding newcomers Kobras of GABA scalp on Sunday with Plaisance Guardians who they defeated in Friday. Royals won that game 77-55. Harrold Adams was the main scorer again for the team and he netted a game high 22 point in that match.
Matches continue at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall on Friday December 8 and admission to the venue is free of cost. (Calvin Chapman)
