Cabinet Secretary Dr. Roger Luncheon today announced during his first weekly media briefing after recovering from a back ailment that the government will commence work on establishing a national minimum wage for both the private and public sectors. This move was as a result of a recommendation arising out of tripartite talks between the government, organised labour and the private sector.
He said “Labour minister Dr. Nanda Gopaul successfully sought Cabinet support for the establishment of a national minimum wage in Guyana. Cabinet was firmly in support of the group’s initiative and invited the minister to compile a comprehensive list of interventions necessary to give effect to the government’s intentions.”
