Guyana has civil servants trying to get a few dollars on the side by breaking the rules for people. That is engrained cultural attitudes that will be hard to break. For example, a customs worker will always try to get a free meal of liver stew and bread at the airport restaurant payed for by some person who does not want to pay his or her duties and taxes to the state.

I think Rama used to be one of these customs workers.
A customs worker told me that he enjoyed chicken liver stew with bread and soft drink for a week at the airport restaurant all payed for by a trader who did not want to pay taxes.

What exactly does this worker do for the customs department?
Are you talking about a Porter, a security guard, or an officer?

There is always a paper trail. The man wouldn't get fired if he is telling the truth.
