A crisis has erupted at the state of the art New Amsterdam hospital over the shortage of foodstuff, with one patient dying after not eating for over one day.
On Wednesday afternoon a group of concerned citizens and family members had mounted a protest action outside of the hospital.
According to reports the in-patients at the hospital who are usually fed by the hospital, had not eaten since Tuesday after it was found out that not much was available to cook.
Further checks revealed that most of the rations had spoiled. According to a source at the hospital one patient went into a diabetic shock and died.
According to another source, since the removal of the storage bond from the New Amsterdam hospital, the shortage of food stuff has become a regular feature.
Ration was subsequently sourced from the nearby National Psychiatric Hospital. However, according to a patient, the food stuff was placed on a trolley which was used to transport the dead.
Up to yesterday afternoon the patients were not fed.
