DG is right on this assumption. The question is about the political will on both sides and I do not see goodwill being shown. The AFC is too radical and full of loose cannons. The PNC on the other hand does have some progressive members who can make a valuable and positive contribution for the good of Guyana.

This will also end the racial divide in Guyana.  Ralph on the other hand is not the man for this job. He was rejected by the PNC as speaker and this shows a lack of confidence in him.

It will take a young generation to change the political landscape of Guyana. Gerhard showed promise but ended up with the wrong crowd.

Cheddi Jagan worked tirelessly to reunite the people of Guyana. In 1953 the elections showed  strong united support for the PPP under Jagan. CLR James, the noted Caribbean historian commented that Jagan's uniting the people of Guyana  was something that was unique to the Caribbean political experience.

In the early 1980's a series of  unity talks took place between the PPP and PNC which ended in an agreement being reached at a formula for power sharing between the two poltical parties. These plans were scuttled by Desmond Hoyte in 1985 after Burnham's death.

When the PPP-C came to office in 1992 it was Jagan's aim to continue the program which was started in 1953 , sabotaged in 1964 and scuttled in 1985. Jagan died and everything came to a stand still...

At this stage of our political development the AFC cannot be left out. In fact it should be the force to hold the other two parties together in a national front govt. The leadership of the AFC are more in tune with Jagan's vision than the present leadership of the PPP.....and PNC....

I have proposed on another forum the formation of a national front govt headed by Ralph and Moses and other Guyanese patriots who must be willing to shed their past political affliations and come together for the good of all Guyana....

The challenges of race, corruption, nepotism, poverty , etc cannot be handled by only one political entitity in Guyana given our history of tension   and narrow mindedness.....

Guyana is not ready for a two/three party system. We see what has happened since 2011. Mr. Ramkarram leave the PPP but he didn't belittle himself like Moses. Moses could have been like Ralph and people would respect him, but he was involved in NICIL corruption and the money filled his eyes and he lied in Parliament among other things. Moses meck abee hann fall.

Wally, you're a good man and I know you mean well. The thing you desire, however, is never going to happen. It was a probability during the 1960s thru mid-1980s, as Demerara_Guy and Churchill are reminding us. But no PPP-PNC merger materialized then, and none will materialize in the future. As an observer, I haven't seen an iota of a hint that either of the two parties is thinking about a political marriage.

And, Wally, the two parties were never originally one, as you put it. When Burnham was a PPP member in the early 1950s the PNC was not yet born even in Burnham's imagination. His total obsession was to push Cheddi Jagan off the party leader's position and become the PPP leader himself. Even after the split in 1955, Burnham's new group called itself PPP. He probably thought that Jagan-PPP would not survive overwhelming British colonial harrassment aided and abetted by himself, Lionel Luckhoo et al. That dream didn't turn to reality and Burnham had no choice than to forget the PPP fiefdom and create a new name for his fellow deserters, PNC.

Now, in 2013, the PPP and PNC have more irreconcilable differences.

In the present circumstance, you're putting Ralph Ramkarran in a pointless role. Let the good man decide for himself what he wants to do.

Burnham was not a deserter. In 1955, British Guiana was still a colony and he did no wrong in the eyes of the British to create another political party vying for independence. His aim was to chart another path for the PPP, he contested the leadership. Janet and Cheddie BOYCOTTED the debate for a change in leadership.

To remind you, Cheddie, Janet and Forbes were all members of the PPP and the party recieved the blessings and support of the masses. AND THE PARTY BELONGS TO THE PEOPLE. Without the ppl, dem is nothing. All the other political parties of the 1950's knows that. The PPP leadership was not successful because of those men and women of its makeup, but simply because of the great efforts made by grass root activism. Janet Jagan recognised their potentials and she harnessed their efforts by creating CELLS throughout the colony. She was a very organized woman but a very vindictive one if she did not like u.

The issue relates to working against the direction and approach of the political movement -- not if she does not like a person.

While it may not be clear to many individuals, Janet Jagan was concerned about individuals and strive to be supportive to their needs/causes.

u r wrong. Communism and its promotion meant more for her than the lively hood of the impoverished Guianese.

Communism and its promotion are unrelated to the specific issues.

Ralph Ramkarran is not stupid like Moses to tell off the PPP. He is not going to join the AFC either, even if you the AFC want to invest in that foolish idea. Go sleep, bhai!
