Popular spare parts dealer Rajendra Singh, called ‘Sunil’ was reportedly kidnapped at gunpoint at around 19.00 hrs last night outside his Lot 15, Foulis Public Road, East Coast Demerara residence. A family member has reportedly received a call from the alleged kidnappers who are demanding $50M for Singh’s release. According to reports reaching Kaieteur News, the 40-year-old businessman had already closed up for the evening when a silver-grey Toyota Vitz stopped outside his residence. The occupants reportedly called out for Singh, while pretending that they wanted to make a purchase. Kaieteur News understands that Singh, who is in the habit of helping out customers even after he has closed up for the day, went out to the men. The ‘customers’ immediately held him at gunpoint and forced him into their car. A source said that Singh’s wife subsequently received a call from someone claiming to be one of the kidnappers. The caller demanded $50M and said that the ransom had to be delivered immediately. The ‘kidnapper’ also allegedly left a contact number and warned her not to contact the police. Up to press time last night police were still attempting to locate the businessman and his abductors.
