Snap election will be held six months from September 2014 which will be in January 2015, and one year before the general election is due in 2016. I am very excited that the government and oppositions will have to go back to the poll and face the voters once again. I expect this new election will bring change for the better of all Guyanese.

My humble opinion on why it is wise to have election in January 2015:

Guyanese are not used to early election and people may tend to lose interest. One year short of the full term election is more acceptable to the voters, and this may encourage more people to participate in the electoral process. With this said, Guyana needs to have more voter participation, and to give them time to register. This will give more people a chance to make their voices heard in our political process, and at the same time, it's good for all parties contesting the election.

Question: What are the pros and cons about this timing?

1. Whether an election is held before or at the designated date, eligible voters will have the opportunity to exercise their choice.

2. Each election will have individuals who may or may not vote as usual.

3. Also, there may be similar number of registrants, though not the same individuals, who will definitely not vote for various reasons.
