THREE key members of the Alliance For Change (AFC) have reportedly defected to A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) following irreconcilable differences about campaign strategies and party management. The members are Economist, Tarron Khemraj, businessman, Rab Mukraj and Political Science Professor, Asquith Rose, while former soldier Malcolm Harripaul, who had long switched allegiance to the APNU, has also been formally added to the list of defectors.

This latest batch adds to the irrevocable resignation of Shamir Ally, a financier and lobbyist for the AFC, because of concerns over leadership approaches.

Rose has said that as many as 11 persons have decided to walk away from the AFC and according to him, several of them would go to APNU and the remainder back to the governing People’s Progressive Party (PPP).

Quack-Warrior,

Bhai, is wuh going on with leadership of the AFC? I thought it was only the PPP in leadership crisis. When you have an exodus of 11 members from a party it obviously means there is serious  disagreement over some issue.  Maybe some leaders in the AFC wants the party to play a more responsible role in parliament and stop aligning itself with notorious PNC especially when they agitate people to carry out violent attacks on civilians and police? Some in the AFC may have viewed this new approach as a sell-out to the ruling PPP while others think it is necessary for the party to survive to fight the next elections. I think factionalism has developed in the party and it is playing itself out. Forget about those Indians who moved to APNU. An Indian PNCite never done

There is no factionalism in the AFC, the AFC is like any other party in some regards where it has persons of diverse backgrounds.

The folks who seem to have departed from the AFC may have felt a sense of betrayal by Ramjattan and The Hughes over the Amalia Falls Fiasco.

I heard that there were a lot of heated discussions within the Party with the majority of members including Ramaya who were opposed to the deal. Ramaya had to vote for it because Ramjattan the party leader seh you have to vote for it.

Moses was also seemingly caught off guard but Moses now is a tame ***** cat. He cannot stand up to Nigel and Cathy Hughes or Ramjattan.
