Newton receives WKU hall of fame award

Following his double gold medal haul at the recently concluded North American Federation for Martial Arts championships (NAFMA) In New Jersey, Guyanese Sensei Garfield Newton of the Black Hawks Martial Arts Management Network Association received his second World Karate Union hall of fame award.
The event was held on June 11 at Chato Resort in Pokinoes Mountain of Pennsylvania, USA. He was nominated and won the second highest award at the World Karate Union (WKU) hall of fame lifetime achievement awards; a WKU pin and the WKU gold ring.
Newton was the only Guyanese and the only athlete to represent the Caribbean at the prestigious event of legendary martial artists and actors. He will now undergo a three week self defence course with the North American Federation for Martial Arts before returning to Guyana to prepare his team for the world championships in St. Lucia in August and the Caribbean Championships set for Trinidad in October.
