You can't stop a person from getting a job within the project when there aren't enough people to choose from. We only got 500K of inhabitants. Of those probably only 50K stand a chance of getting a job within the higher level of the economy.

When last a PPP person resigned after all the screw up? Mr Ramotar was made president after squatting on the Guysuco board for 20 years. Robert Persaud was rewarded for destroying the sugar industry. AFC good!

All long we have been pointing out the duplicitous nature of politicians on the opposition side and it took a disagreement on the Amaila Falls Hydro Project between the two parties which comprise the opposition for their media mouthpieces to confirm this. Backtracker Glen Lall's muckracking outfit run by People's National Congress (PNC) propagandist Adam Harris today reported that  Alliance for Change (AFC) chairman Nigel Hughes was appointed as ‘Secretary’ of the Amaila Falls Hydro Inc. in April of 2009. Another example of how the APNU and AFC point their corruption fingers at various developmental projects yet senior members of these two parties benefit by way of employment from the very projects. Did we say conflict of interest? Nah! That, according to the opposition, only applies to the government.

If you wish to know, the Amaila Falls Hydro Inc is the Special Purpose Vehicle/Company created for the development, construction and operation of the Amaila Falls Hydro Power plant. It is also the company that the Guyana Power and Light (GPL) will be making its payments to, is 60 per cent owned by Sithe Global and 40 per cent owned by the Guyana Government and will be required to make payments to Sithe Global and the various lenders to the project, including the China Exim Bank and the IDB.

The PNC muckracker also reported that Nigel's wife Cathy, as recent as yesterday issued a press statement in which she was identified as the Public Relations Officer for Sithe Global, locally. We already pointed out how Cathy is best suited to answer Carl Greenidge's questions on the competence of Fip Motilall and the wisdom of awarding him the contract to build the Amaila access road given that her company Videomega Productions produced a lengthy documentary extolling Fip's experience etc.

But you are probably wondering why the PNC muckracker went to such lengths to expose this duplicity given that the AFC, of which Nigel Hughes is the chairman, and the PNC's A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) appear joined at the hip. Well the AFC's mouthpiece the Stabroek News today reported that Khemraj Ramjattan has had a change of heart and will support the Amaila hydro. And this now leaves the PNC's APNU alone in the woods in terms of opposition to the project. Already we are hearing how Ramjattan's u-turn was brought about by internal pressures being exerted by the Hughes' who stand to loose out if it fails. And its our guess as well as yours out of whose propaganda machinery this emanated from. So readers can look forward to more revelations and counter revelations in the coming weeks as the saga unfolds.

Mr Nigel Hughes did the honorable thing in disclosing to the AFC leadership his association with Amaila since two years before he joined the AFC. He also did the principled thing in recusing himself from discussions on Amaila.

Still, there are troubling questions. If Kaieteur News didn't publish the facts, how would the AFC membership and the population at large know what Mr Hughes did? Ditto Cathy Hughes. I presume, subject to correction, Mrs Hughes is a parliamentarian and would have voted with the AFC in parliament on Amaila.

I'm not going to pass judgement here, but something ain't clear and proper. More disclosures are in order.
