Chairman of the AFC and Attorney - at - Law, Nigel Hughes

Chairman of the AFC and Attorney – at – Law, Nigel Hughes

[www.inewsguyana.com] – The governing People’s Progressive Party (PPP) is calling for the resignation of Chairman of the minority opposition party _ the Alliance For Change (AFC) – Nigel Hughes, following the recent disclosure relating to the land being occupied by Mae’s Secondary School.

In a statement issued to the press on Sunday, February 9, the PPP said, “These allegations must not be taken lightly, and are to say the least, troubling and worrying to the public at large. The PPP is also appalled by the deafening silence of the Executive of the Alliance for Change on the continuous reports that its Chairman is involved in various forms of fraudulent activities, misconduct and improprieties.”

According to the PPP, “It is shameful, but telling that the AFC which preaches about good governance and accountability is failing miserably to reign in Hughes despite the scandals in which he is finding himself. The fact that these allegations continue to be made is cause for concern about the integrity of the Attorney at Law and his ethical standards, not only in the political realm, but when doing business.

“Apart from the allegations that he sold a property to a popular city school despite taking out a mortgage which he failed to pay, and the ongoing litigation on the matter, Hughes was involved in several other scandals.”

The Party recalled the allegations of conflict of interest when it was revealed that Hughes and his wife Cathy were in the employ of Sithe Global, the company which developed the Amaila Falls Hydro Project which the AFC rejected.

“Hughes was also embroiled in another controversy surrounding his deliberate failure to disclose his relationship with the jury foreman in the Lusignan massacre trial whilst representing one of the accused.”

The PPP noted that they are aware of Hughes links to criminal elements and the underground.

“The party is aware of his links to prominent drug lords and criminals of this ilk and his bare faced representation of their interests in the courts when litigation is brought against them. The party recalls his involvement in the removal of footage from the gas station where a citizen was gunned down at Buxton.”

Hughes is currently engaged in a court battle in which the owner of Mae’s School, Mayfield French is alleging that he sold her a property despite taking out a mortgage which he failed to repay. Some 300 students are at risk as a result of the court battle

Nigel Hughes is wrong and strong. He will never bent on pressure by the PPP to resign. He resigned once due to conflict of interest and withdraw his resignation. He don't understand his position in government and only think as an attorney. If he don't do the right thing now, he will run into bigger trouble and put the AFC on shame...again.

It is baffling that a party that preaches accountability, honesty and transparency still has Nigel as Chairman. Looks like the Executive committee of the AFC is afraid to bell the cat.

Therefore, you agree that the PPP should continue to steal without any objection from the joint opposition? I just want to make sure I read you correct. If that is correct, I will leave AFC's business to themselves and take care of the PPP chicken coop.

* WHY THE HELL IS THE PPP CALLING FOR NIGEL HUGHES TO RESIGN ?

* It is none of the PPP's business if Nigel is still the Chairman of the AFC.

* If Moses and Khemraj want to keep licking the shyt from Nigel's butt---that is their prerogative.

* LISTEN! 51.4% OF GUYANESE VOTED AGAINST THE PPP in 2011.

* That means that more than half of Guyanese voters don't want the PPP---they would love to see them resign,

* So the PPP ought not be calling on the crooked, corrupt, dishonest, fraudulent and untrustworthy Nigel Hughes to resign.

* THE PPP SHOULD TRY TO WIN BACK SOME OF THE 15% OF INDIANS WHO VOTED FOR THE AFC IN 2011.

Moses might finally have his day in the sun and may have a shot at being the Chairman of the AFC. The AFC ship is sinking very fast, defections and now scandals involving Nigel.

Moses will have to steer a sinking ship.

The PPP is gearing up for an election in the event of the failure of the opposition to pass the Budget. The PNC is broke financially and he AFC is complaining about lack of funding from overseas supporters.

The political daggers are out.

Chairman of the Alliance for Change (AFC), Nigel Hughes, was appointed as the ‘Secretary’ of the Amaila Falls Hydro Inc., the Special Purpose Vehicle/Company created for the development, construction and operation of the US$858M Hydro Power plant.
Executive Member of the AFC, Cathy Hughes, the wife of Nigel Hughes, as recent as yesterday issued a press statement in which she was identified as the Public Relations Officer for Sithe Global, locally.
Party Leader Khemraj Ramjattan, when contacted said that he was aware that Hughes has an association with the company but said he did not know that he was Company Secretary.

Excerpts from the Kaieteurnews

Nigel Hughes appears to be above the laws in the AFC camp, he operates with impunity.

No, some folks wants to make politics their private business. They speak of PPP corruption, yet they want to justify corruption for others. They want Indians to baby sit Blacks as though they are victims. They act like bullies and day time thieves and expect us to salute them.

Nigel is being protected by the Guyana Bar association. He should have been disbarred a long time ago. He puts the legal profession to shame as he is now doing with the AFC. Now I know the reason why BJ said that as long as he is President of Guyana he would not confer this scamp with a Senior Counsel title. Like him or hate him, BJ knew that this man was corrupted.

* Moses is dying to replace Nigel as Chairman of the AFC.

* Moses also wants to be the AFC's presidential candidate in the next election.

* But Ramjattan is holding on to that position for dear life.

* THEY ARE ALL A BUNCH OF EGOMANIACS---Moses, Ramjattan, Nigel, Trotman.

RE: THE AFC FAST SINKING

* I don't believe so.

* The AFC will be around for a long time.

* Moses and Khemraj have no place to go.

* Moses and Ramjattan are just the front men.

I guess that you prefer them to be blind PPP followers. After all, the PPP are the thieves stealing from the people. You also pray the people stay home if the AFC is not there. Then the  PNC wins and the buffer is gone! Slander the AFC and you guarantee a PNC minority government. Get it in your knuckle head, the PPP is not winning a majority ever again.

* The AFC received 35,333 votes in 2011

* Of that 35,333 votes---23,100 were likely Indians----the AFC received 15% of the Indian votes in 2011.

* GOOD TO SEE ROHEE AND THE PPP FOCUSING ON THE GRASS ROOTS IN BERBICE.

* In Region 6 alone the AFC received 11,634 votes.

* Even if the PPP is stealing from the people---Guyana is still progressing---economic and social development continues. But when your beloved PNC did the stealing, they bankrupted Guyana.

Rohee cannot "focus" on anything to initiate change in voting pattern. The PPP would have had to show change from their corrupt ways. That will not happen so his task  is akin to rehabilitating a fox as guardian of the hens.   Further, he is above all very much not liked by many of the rank and file.

Relax,

Nigel is on his way out.

The daggers in the AFC camp are out. According to a highly placed source, the writing is on the wall and they are preparing the final documents for his departure.

Patience.

By what metric are you using? The ostentatious spending is from a the drug culture plus the PPP fat cats. The state still show unemployment to the tune of some 20 percent. It still has a poverty rate of some 40% with 90 percent on the margins. Our debt load is 100 percent the GDP  and we hardly produce  one quarter of our budget. We depend on the benefaction of othere via the begging bowl and on remission.

No industry in Guyana is flourishing. Rice which is doing well output wise but it is  hammered on the returns on investment by the ponzy scheme Brazzington is running with the rice for oil exchange. The money to farmers range in lag-time from 3 to six months and that can only increase since graft in oil sales is rampant and ponzy schemes have but one way to go .

What are you talking about with this mention of progress?

* The AFC received 35,333 votes in 2011 =10.3% overall

* There were high hopes and expectations for the AFC among the 35,333 voters who supported the party in 2011.

* But those hopes and expectations have shriveled.

* And if Nigel were to be found guilty of fraud---that guilty charge would be the catalyst that would spur many of the 35,333 voters who supported the AFC in 2011 to desert the party.

Leader of the Alliance for Change (AFC), Khemraj Ramjattan has disregarded the Party’s Chairman Nigel Hughes’ involvement in a bitter land dispute with the owner of Mae’s Secondary School, Mayfield French as a personal matter and declined when approached by reporters to make any detailed comment in relation to the matter.

The AFC Leader on Monday, February 10 said he has not even had any discussion with Hughes in relation to the allegations since it surfaced in the media just about a week ago.

Ramjattan, who attempted to remain mute on the subject.......
