A U.S based Guyanese has taken Alliance for Change(AFC) Chairman and Attorney-at-law Nigel Hughes to task over his comments at an AFC public meeting in which he called for mass protest in an effort to overthrow the PPP/C government.  Writing in a letter published by one of the local dailies Harry Gill said that Hughes seems to have put enhancing his political ambition in front of everything else.

He said this is not the first time that the AFC chairman sought to instigate civil unrest through protest and reminded reader of an open letter in which he wrote,  β€œThe COI is now over and your wounds are still raw and perhaps even more so. The question is where do you go from here. That is a matter only you the people of Linden can determine after you have deliberated on the contents of the report. The awards for damages for the loss of the lives of three of your citizens are appallingly low and the report has attributed fault for their deaths to the Guyana Police Force".
Gill said if Hughes feels that justice was not done to the victims of the Linden shooting during the so-called β€œpeaceful protest” of July 2012, then it was he who failed them as he Linden Commission of Inquiry commissioners clearly were not impressed with most of the testimonies given by the witnesses he advised.

He said Hughes offered legal consultation to the victims and the families of the three dead protestors in preparation for their testimonies before the Commission of Inquiries -COI and that it therefor begs the question as to whether or not he advised witnesses to inflate their incomes and falsify employment status to justify a higher level of compensation as the Commissioners believed they did in their report. Gill said if this was done it would be a dishonest attempt at corruption, something which Hughes accuses the Administration of.
Gill said Hughes is impatient, and is anxious to grab power long before the constitutionally scheduled date for national election in Guyana and is now openly calling for mass street protest to oust the People’s Progressive Party / Civic from power.
