No answers to questions on whether Van West Charles’ post was advertised

Wednesday , October 14 2015, Source

THERE was no word from Governance Minister, Raphael Trotman, when asked about the appointment of Dr. Richard Van West Charles as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Guyana Water Inc.   At a news conference today, he could not confirm whether the post of GWI CEO was advertised.

Trotman said only that it is a matter for the Board.

Notably, the last Board of Director was disbanded and the names of the news Directors on the new Board were announced at the same time that Charles’.

Additionally, Charles, is on the A Partnership for National Unity and Alliance For Change (APNU+AFC) National Top Up List.

A recent GWI statement stated that Charles took over his new appointment with effect from October 1, 2015.

The current APNU+AFC administration has come under fire for the appointment of several persons to leadership posts, persons who supported the coalition in the lead up to the May 11 General and Regional elections.

The criticisms have been premised against the fact that while APNU+AFC, on the campaign trail, slammed the former administration for “political appointees” in the public service, it has reneged on its promise to keep “political hacks” away from such key roles.

Several members of several Boards of Directors are members of the APNU+AFC list of candidates, which was submitted on April 7, Nomination Day, to the Guyana Elections Commission.

The man use to be a senior Minister of Health.  Taking a job as the head of the water authority can be considered a step backward.  But he took the job to serve his country.
