Please see below statement from Minister of Human Services and Social Security Dr Vindhya Persaud:

I would like to advise everyone that NO child with a permanent disability has been refused the $100K cash grant and WILL NOT be refused.

The list received from the National Commission on Disabilities which is being used has some omissions of children who have been registered.

I have personally ensured that desks are set up at every site to take down the names of each child who has been inadvertently omitted, with the commitment to return to those sites within 1 month so that those children with permanent disabilities who have been omitted will receive the grant , all of them.

At each site this has been clearly communicated by Me and members of the team to the entire audience, and individually in cases where persons engaged me personally.

I want to assure everyone that NO a child with a permanent disability has been refused or will be refused.

I have seen the article and our team is trying to find that parent to allay her concern, as it is simply not true that any child has been refused. Every name was taken down that was omitted and they will all receive once they have been registered by NCOD and approved as having a permanent disability.

In that child’s case, from the picture, there is an obvious disability- no one would turn him down!

If anyone has a contact number for the parent , kindly provide same .. so incase the parent did not understand, we can again explain clearly and simply.

Guyana Daily News should have contacted MHSSS or me for clarity and in the interest of helping that child provided us with the information rather than publishing inaccuracies.

I respectfully ask that any parent who has a concern re: the above to please contact MHSSS and we will again explain and provide clarity.
