The political opposition has apparently backtracked from a threat to bring a no-confidence motion against the PPP/C government made late last month. The threat which was made by Moses Nagamootoo was later supported by the PNC’s APNU and was amplified and given much prominence by the opposition friendly media. The ruling PPP however, quickly dismissed such calls and challenged both the PNC/APNU and AFC to ‘bring it on’. The PPP has been vindicated in calling the APNU/AFC bluff as the two announced that the motion has been put on hold. In an effort to save face they have attributed this decision to their adoption of a ‘wait-and-see’ approach in relation to a financial paper tabled before the house by Finance Minister Ashni Singh.I rather suspect that if the two were never serious in the first instance about bringing a no confidence motion against the government and the whole 'hype' around Nagamootoo's threat was created by the sensationalism driven opposition friendly media.

In G/T, we use to say granning and fat talk. I think the same fat talk exist in politics today. Talking and doing is two different things. I also want to believe that the opposition wants to divert attention from the Rodney inquiry. How that sound?

The PPP is terrified of Local General Elections. They don't have the support of sugar workers and rice growers. Too many broken promises. The Berbice Bridge toll is a killer for the PPP in Berbice.
