Whimsical outpourings from the cynics have been deflated

Dear Editor,
Of recent, the offices of the DPP and the DPP herself have been on the receiving end of some unwarranted criticism from the usual dissenters. The term unwarranted is so chosen because the criticisms could not in any way be substantiated by evidence or otherwise.
Two issues that attracted the nationβs interest which have been dealt with by the DPP provide sufficient evidence of the impartiality and integrity of the bearer of that office.
The first case surrounds the Islamic Scholar who has been charged with violating three young children. When this issue entered the public domain, many via the print and electronic media gave a vote of no confidence to the DPP to deal with this issue in a just and impartial manner taking into account the complexities surrounding the accused. In fact, she was maliciously accused of attempting to obstruct justice which was debunked when she offered to recluse herself from the case. At the time of composing this letter, the accused has been charged and has been remanded to prison.
The second case that will be dealt with is the rape case surrounding the police commissioner. Again, we were greeted by the naysayers who had little confidence in the DPP to address this matter. The events over the past week have proved otherwise. Notwithstanding the fact that the High Court has temporarily barred the Guyana Police Force from instituting rape charge against the top cop, it was on the advice of the DPP, that the charge of rape be issued in the first place, in spite of recommendations of the Jamaican and Guyana Police Force being otherwise. These two matters should serve to reinforce the fact that the office of the DPP operates without fear or favour in a manner that is transparent, objective and impartial.
