Gov’t clears over $1B in contracts …part of package to stimulate economy
CABINET on Tuesday approved more than $1 billion in contracts aimed at stimulating economic growth and job- creation. Prime Minister Moses Nagamootoo announced Wednesday that the government had given its no- objection to the award of the contracts, which include a number of infrastructural development projects. An estimated $400 million was spent earlier in the year for projects also intended to stimulate economic activities, create employment and enhance the economic and physical conditions of communities.
The contracts are: purchase of fire- fighting vehicles for the Guyana Fire Service. This contract was awarded to Angloco Limited for $36,615,998. Besides, a contract for the alteration and renovation of the Bureau of Statistics on Main Street was awarded to Project Design Construction Inc for $118,976,873.
Meanwhile, a contract for the maintenance of industrial conditioning systems for the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation was awarded to Antartica Maintenance & Repairs for $79,958,000. Additionally, for the supply of school uniforms- related materials for Region #7, a contract was awarded to Ravina International for $27,705,674. Also in the area of education, several contracts were awarded for the supply of textbooks for national distribution. These include: Oxford University Press – £46,474.84; Maximillian Distribution – £44,331.87 and Mohamed’s Bookstore Associates Ltd. – Us$496,794.32.
Prime Minister Nagamootoo also disclosed that contracts for the construction of Rip Rap River defences were approved for Region #3 – Essequibo Islands/West Demerara. These works will be done in Orangestein, East Bank Essequibo. Contract awarded to Samaroo’s Investment for $41,583,390; Endeavour, Leguan. Contract awarded to Samaroo Investment for $42,951,100; Maria Johanna, Wakenaam. Contract awarded to Deodat Singh Construction Firm for $84,927,150; Maryville, Leguan. Contract awarded to A & S General Construction Inc. for $76,332,500; Ledestin, East Bank Essequibo. Contract awarded to M & B Construction for $36,235,200; Stanleytown, West Bank Demerara. Contract awarded to M & B Construction M$34,514,750 and La Bagatelle, Leguan. Contract awarded to Bk International for $74,644,350.
In Region #4 similar contracts were awarded to BK International for works at Mosquito Hall, Mahaica for $153,272,120. In Region #5 Glasgow/Heatburn, East Bank Berbice. Contract awarded to M&B Construction $104,240,700. Boulder Face slope protection works between Crane and Mary, West Coast Demerara, Region #3. Contract awarded to Kb & B Contractors for $41,456,000. At Scotsburg, Corentyne, a contract was awarded to B & M Construction for $47,522,700; construction of timber revetment at Vryheid, Canje, Berbice, contract awarded to Roopan Romatar Investments for $18,110,800.

Additionally, Nagamotoo said that cabinet has approved $22.4M for the rehabilitation of Parika Stelling a further $33.6 for installation of water transmission lines and service connection upgrades at Lamaha Park, Georgetown. This contract was awarded to R. Kissoon Contracting Services for $33,643,848. A similar contract was awarded to Nabi Construction Inc. for $18,345,071 for works along Turkeyen Dam, Pattensen & Lilliendaal Dam. There was also a contract for management of water supply systems at Mabaruma. The contract was awarded to Aav Ragoobeer General Construction for $26,108,720.
