Public schools across the country will be closed on Friday as teachers enjoy the day off ahead of World Teacher’s Day.
The Chief Education Officer Marcel Hutson announced the “Manager’s Day” in a memo to all teachers.
“The Chief Education Officer recognises the outstanding contributions of teachers towards the transformation of the education system, and as such would like to thank teachers for their invaluable service rendered,” Hutson said in the September 29, 2019 memo.
The day off is usually given on World Teachers Day, but since that day falls on Saturday, the teachers were given the day off Friday.
World Teacher’s Day is observed as a day of reflection and appreciation for the contribution of teachers in the development of the education in Guyana while “empowering teachers to demonstrate alacrity towards the transformation of the education system,” Hutson stated.
