Thirty-one-year-old Richard Stanton was late Wednesday evening freed of the murder of Patricia Sanasie, who was gunned down in front of her Atlantic Gardens, East Coast Demerara home on January 12, 2015.
Stanton was on trial before Justice Brassington Reynolds at the High Court where the jury found him not guilty of the charge.
He was represented by Attorney-at-law Mark Waldron. Representing the state was prosecutor Tiffini Lyken, Seeta Bishundial, and Narissa Leander.
Speaking after the verdict, Stanton said: “God has proven himself that he is great. God knows that I’m innocent of this whole crime.”
Stanton also expressed hope that the victim’s family get justice for her death.
The 45-year-old businesswoman was riddled with bullets by a gunman clad in black. She was shot to the chest, abdomen, neck, and groin.
It was reported that Romona Sanasie, a daughter of the deceased, positively identified Stanton as her mother’s killer.
Eyewitnesses reported that a “big built gunman” exited from a silver-colored Raum and discharged four shots at the woman while she attempted to open her gate seconds after arriving home.
She was the wife of popular Auto Dealer, Deonarine Sanasie popularly known as ‘Monkey Ram.’
