They do the same for the PNC in Linden. FYI: Berbice has some non-PPP supporters too. Maybe your relatives identify with them.

I am from Berbice. The people are scared of the PPP's victimization. No one will speak out against the PPP on camera and especially when they know that they are being recorded while answering leading questions.

I think you need it more than I do. It was 3 degrees outside but my dogs and I did our 3 mile loop through the park. I am well on ,y way to fitness for my half tri in may. It is not being  outside that is the problem but your own personal intellectual constipation. You cannot admit to the fact a old coolie racist is giving us his spiel and as usual it is connected to nothing but his latent hate for those not like him.

I'm so sick of the PPP daags pretending to care about Berbice and Berbicians.

They don't. The word "Berbician" wouldn't even be in the political discourse for lip service treatment if the Berbicians didn't walk off the PPP plantation in substantial numbers.

Sad.

The Black people should DEMAND division of the country. Indians will never be free of mind. Before, Black people kill them all and have blood on their hands, the man of wisdom Ramotar should let the Black people have their portion of Guyana.

They gave their blood for it.

If Ramotar doan do that, then Black people will be mentally enslaved-they already are like the Untouchables of India. Just for being born as an Afro-no fault of their own, Kulie people has marked them for their entire life. Only dying will free them from Indo prejudices.

Voting for the PPP is one thing, but not to know the Oppostion's platform is a people of closed minds.

Can u imagine, over past years past since aloo and dahl was banned and the Indoes remember that to this day.

The PPP should study Rwanda, Nigeria and the Middle-east.

Statisticians crunch up numbers to make their side look good. The real numbers will be posted on election night or the next day. Those numbers will matter.

Too bad Hoyte was intimidated by Carter. The PNC should a carry on winning. PPPites set the precedent for the PNC bad governance.

According to established and respected international organisations, PNC indeed won under their approach of falsifying the votes, hence their-international organisations involvement in the 1992 elections.

Former President Jimmy Carter's involvement is one of many to remember in 1992.

Some even became wealthy bringing in contraband from suriname. Foodstuff was never an issue. It was if it was never banned in the ancient county.

Police once arrested a family with aloo and lamb curry in the karahee. Put the karahee(as evidence) in the back of the jeep with the family. When they arrived at Springlands police station, the karahee was there minus the aloo and meat. Case was dismissed.

A recent column from Mr. Seeram on Moses Nagamootoo being a candidate for president as “ambition” shows how very little he knows Bro. Moses.

Moses is not a fly by night politician; he is a tried and tested leader and has been a warrior for the working class. Moses was there for us when we needed him most. At a time when being associated with the PPP meant unemployment, starvation and suffering at the hands of the PNC, Moses was there for us. At a time when your life was in danger from House of Israel thugs and PNC terrorists, Moses was there for us.  There are many in the PPP cabinet now with no history of working class struggle or standing up for the masses.  What did people like the famous Chatree, Ashni, Sam, Jagdeo, Manickchand, Jennifer, Norman, Juan, Carolyn, and Robeson, know about working class struggle or fighting in the trenches for the people.  In thick and thin, Moses was there with Jagan and the working poor.

I remember when news would come to Berbice from Georgetown (not many phones in those days) that Moses was beaten again or harassed by the PNC mafia, Moses’ mother, the kind-hearted Auntie Chunoo from Whim would cry and say, “Me no know wha Moses ah kill he self behind Jagan.”  But that was Moses. He was willing to risk his life and family interests for the working people.

Moses is not and never was an opportunist.  When Chandisingh, Teekah, Harilall and others crossed the floor, Moses stayed with Jagan and the suffering masses.  He and others “stood in the Gap” for the nation until democracy was restored in 1992.

I remember in the 1973 elections, it was Moses on election night battling it out with the PNC people exposing the rigging of the elections by the Army.

When the PPP (Jaganite) begin to lose its way with the death of the Jagans, and started to depart from the ideals of Jagan, it was Moses (and Ramjattan) who blew the whistle, and eventually left the PPP (Jagdeoite), when it was no longer possible to change the now bourgeois, parasitic PPP.

Moses is a decent person, with a long record of defending the people.  The PPP are terrified of him because, Moses has credibility and knows how to handle the Jagdeoite crowd.  With Moses as part of the AFC team of Bro. Khemraj, Nigel and Trotman and others, they have brought the now corrupt PPP to its knees.

Seeram is a smart man and should know better than trying to vilify Bro. Moses, one of Berbice’s pride and joy.

Sincerely,

Jay Bharrat

Well, at least yuh got back the karahee. That was more than some families got back when their property became "evidence"

One of our cars was impounded at Springlands (must have been the same aloo/lamb gang) and by the time we notified the Police Commander that these idiots impound his share of banned goods , the car wheel, engine, windows, etc. etc. done gone

We just decided to leave the remaining "car" at the station.

P.S....We got de last laff though. Dat jackass at Springlands who impounded our car fuh fetching banned goods got instantly transferred to patrol some Amerindian village up the Corentyne river accessible only by canoe

That's a believable story.  The Burnham days were days of fear and gnashing of teeth.

I remember helping my relative to fetch car tires from the seawall to their house at Crabwood Creek during the dark of night.

You sit down to eat a meal and you are committing several offenses against Burnham's laws on unaccustomed/banned goods.

Burnham's curse had the unintended consequence of creating a Tapir town in top side.

Dude,

Let's not pretend that anyone really took these laws seriously. The were universally broken.

And people were not living in "fear." I doan know what kinda revisionist history you're trying to write but it's inapposite to the truth.

For people outside of GT, life went on as usual with little change. Sure we had to hoard months of supplies of food toiletries gasoline etc. but life went on.

Maybe you lived in Ghargetung and had to wait in lines for a tin of sardines but the rest of the country got by just fine it seems.

All this nonsense about deep and painful roti and aloo privations is just romantic nonsense.

Dude,

It's "good food" because we were/are a colonial people who solidly bought into the Imperial economic and cultural system of the Victorian/Edwardian Era.

The sardines came from British fisheries, therefore good. The sardines cost more than cheap local fresh fish, therefore good.

Our sardine habit as a People is actually one of the most potent symbols of the success of the British Empire.

Rice and eddo helped. Funny thing was the poor black people were the ones who really starved. All the shopkeepers were Indos.

Once they took me down to Brickdam with a bag of split peas. While the poor officer trying to write up a charge, the police legal adviser came over (my school friend), and holler pon the poor chap.

Burnham's curse had the unintended consequence of creating a Tapir town in top side.

That is like getting arrested for eating sardine and bread

God that sounds disgusting....sardine and bread?

Sardine and roti is perfectly civilized. Sardine and rice even. But sardine and bread? yuck

Shaitaan, long before you were born, sardine and bread was a popular fast-food item in Stabroek Market stalls.

Travellers to Georgetown from distant rural areas would gather around those stalls and stuff their mouths with bread and Marshal sardine in tomato sauce, onion slices and pepper sauce, washed down with a bottle Pepsi or I-Cee.

After eating, they would belch audibly and continue their journey.

I'm only against sardines and bread. I think sardines should only be eaten with roti or rice like civilized people.

Sardines and bread sounds like what someone eats because they wanted a tuna sandwich and couldn't find a can of tuna in the pantry.

Former AFC General Secretary resigns after being ostracized for opposing party internal corruption

THURSDAY, 12 FEBRUARY 2015 17:52 ADMINISTRATOR

Former AFC General Secretary Sixtus Edwards

Former General Secretary of the Alliance for Change(AFC), Sixtus Edwards has tendered his resignation from the party. It is to take effect immediately. Another former AFC member, Region Six Councilor Haseef Yusuf, writing in a letter which appeared in several local newspapers described Edwards as a respected, no-nonsense individual, ‘of integrity and self-respect that is par excellence’.

He said the former General Secretary’s cardinal sin was that he dared to call for financial accountability within the party. By doing this he became the target of a ‘cabal’ led by party leader Khemraj Ramjattan.

Yusuf said he was present in 2012 at the party’s Conference where Edwards spoke out on the need for financial accountability, specifically, for all monies to be deposited in a bank account to be disbursed only when such disbursement is authorised by the Finance Committee. He said Edwards always complained about ‘a one-man Finance Committee’, and the deliberate violation of the Party’s Constitution.

Edwards’ activism against internal party corruption according to the Region 6 Councilor resulted in the rigging of the party’s election which led to him being replaced by David Patterson as General Secretary.

Ralph Ramkarran resigns from PPP

Posted By Stabroek editor On June 30, 2012 @ 5:52 pm In Local News | No Comments

Longstanding PPP executive Ralph Ramkarran today resigned from the ruling party in a move that will likely shake Freedom House to its foundations.

Ramkarran, whose family has long been associated with the party and is seen as one of its most credible and capable figures, tendered his resignation to PPP General Secretary, President Donald Ramotar this morning.

The day I resigned from the PPP

Stabroek News – July 28, 2013 – By Ralph Ramkarran

ralph ramkarranIt was a Saturday morning, June 30, 2012, just over a year ago. I had gone to bed the night before at 7.30 pm, never so early as far as I remember. I opened one of the partially read books at my bedside but could barely concentrate. My wife, Janet, joined me at 9 pm, said nothing, went under the sheets and pretended to go to sleep.

But I knew that sleep would not come to her as long as I was awake and in distress. I knew that during the night she would awaken about every hour and check if I was breathing. I turned off my night light at about 11 pm. She turned around, embraced me and I fell asleep.

I had come home unusually early the afternoon before from the Party Executive meeting. When I was about to leave home at midday for the meeting, Janet pleaded with me, as she often did in recent years, not to lose my temper. I had been on a short fuse for quite a while because of the increasing attacks to which I had been subjected at these meetings. Janet felt that an article I had recently written in which I said that there was pervasive corruption in Guyana might elicit some hostile comments. She feared that I might be tempted to respond.

I did not expect any, but the hostilities had been planned and were expertly executed by willing and practised hands. I endured them, expecting to respond constructively. But as they were ending, I was gratuitously and irrelevantly accused of being untrustworthy. After forty years in the leadership of the PPP, such an accusation was about as much as I could bear

You jump on the attack wagon without pausing to think why Ralph Ramkarran was forced to leave the PPP.

Ralph is a Traitor. Yuji has zero respect for traitors.

I do not forgive traitors. It does not matter what he did in the past. What matters is that traitors are identified and discarded.

I resent anyone who is working to destroy Dr. Jagan's and Janet's PPP.

Since when do all Indians take an oath of allegiance to the Indian Fuhrer on pain of death?

You tell me chap what law of nature, God, or man says that a Coolie in Guyana must vote PPP or else he is a "traitor"?

Unless you don't know what the word "traitor" means?

Are Black people who vote PPP/C also "traitors"?

You calling Ralph a traitor because he cannot condone

corruption and kleptocracy it's ironic.

Your resentment should be directed to current PPP cabal

who destroyed Dr.Jagan vision for the party.

All Indians apparently are owned by the PPP. It's this kind of thinking people don't like anymore so I encourage it. It's insulting to the average Indian.

FM

Apparently Yuji said: "I resent anyone who is working to destroy Dr. Jagan's and Janet's PPP."

Sir, there were 2 PPP's since 1992.

PPP Jaganite (1992, Democracy) and

PPP Jagdeoite (Kleptocracy)

I love the Jaganite PPP; that's why I have Jagan's portrait hanging in my house. Do you have Jagan's portrait hanging in your house?

Even Dr. Jagan's children don't support the PPP Jagdeoite anymore.  The other party founder Ram Karran's children don't support the current PPP.

I talked with Nadira Jagan at Babu John last year.  Have you talked with Nadira?

Moses, Ramjattan, and Ralph could not get the party back on the Jaganite track, so there comes a point where you have to move on.

The AFC/APNU will bring back some of the old PPP values.  Get on board with us; we have a big tent.

PPP 2 morphed a few years after the passing of Dr.Jagan

Jay i used to see him all time walking on Robb St talking

to people,he was a great man.

Django

Why are you coolie people so obsessed with Jagan? My God.

Do you people miss your own dead father and dead mothers as much?

Here in America, George Washington was a brilliant General and a first class statesman and yet we manage to keep him out of daily discourse.

And here you have a man whose only claim to fame was that he led coolie people into disaster after disaster and manage to piss off every Great Power with influence over Guyana so we're now mostly Canadian Guyanese and American Guyanese and British Guyanese.

Give it a rest you people.

You all drank too much Jagan Kool aid.

FM

Mr. Taan:

If you can admit/acknowledge that Dr. Jagan was an honorable, decent man, you would have matured as a person.

I visited Dr. Jagan's house in Bel Air, and was so shocked at how silly they lived.  They still had a 19 inch manual TV with knobs when Janet died, and a 40 year old fridge.  The furnishings and furniture were 1960s. You wouldn't believe their simplicity.  He was Guyana's Ghandi.  Please give credit where credit is due.  Thank you, Sir.
