Unfortunately that is not possible as May 26th is the date that Guyana got its independence. Perhaps this committee can dedicate their efforts to point out the wickedness of the PNC back in 1964 and come to think of it, they will get more publicity doing so on Independence day than any other day of the year. Look what happened to Trump. He was so looking forward to the pomp and circumstance of his inauguration ceremony and the very next day, the women march which was much larger in size and almost global threw him off his game and he has been miserable since then. This committee can do the same but asking to have the Independence day changed is impossible. I am sure there are people who don't care about the Wismar massacre so changing the day is meaningless to them and changing it would be more subjective than objective.
QUOTE: "Speakers pointed out that May 26 was deliberately chosen for independence to celebrate a victory over Indians to teach them a lesson."
Not verifiable. At the Lancaster House conference in late 1965 to decide on a date for independence, Burnham wanted a February date to honor the 1763 Berbice slave revolt. D'Aguiar wanted an August date to mark the end of slavery. Jagan was absent. British Colonial Secretary Duncan Sandys chose a compromise date approximately midway February and August.
Kaz,
Date change can't be easily done, these fellas trying to climb the wrong tree,me thinks they are a little bias from what i read from the

CORRECTION: It was not Duncan Sandys but his successor Anthony Greenwood who decided on the compromise date, May 26, for independence.

Did Greenwood or anyone else gave a reason for choosing that date ?

Did Jagan objected to the date ??
Jagan celebrated Independence with Burnham.Me thinks it all about politics pit races against each other to solidify support.

I understand that Gilly, but I assume Greenwood did not give a reason for picking THIS 'approximately compromising date'. Similar to Burnham and D'Aguiar choosing theirs. Because I assume he could have picked 'another approximately compromising date'.
The reason for my question : This date relates so closely to the Wismer violence and Greenwood might have known this, to further tarnish the images of Indians in Guyana. Because I am sure they did not like Jagan for being a firebrand.

This is the normal story. Note also that the PNC began to emphasize Republic Day. The PPP shifted emphasis to May 26th and in fact de-emphasized Feb 23rd.
The PPP has now been taken over by ROAR and blatantly screams that it is a "coolie people party". It is most assured that the best way for APNU AFC to win in 2020 is if the PPP turns the 2020 election into a "turn Guyana back to Indians". They Indo vote is dwindling and they just don't seem to understand this.
One would think that the PPP would understand that they would have a lock in 2020 if only they project an ethnically INCLUSIVE image.
They need to stop thinking that powerless stooges like Africo Selman can do this. They put Elisabeth Harper and what did that do for them? Every one knew she was a stooge, selling herself to get land and money to get her son out of trouble.

Discuss with yourself why Luncheon admitted that the PPP had very few blacks heading gov't entities. Discuss further why Luncheon also accused the PPP of refusing to protect PPP blacks even as they screamed that APNU was victimizing PPP Indians.
I think its you who are the racist when even your own PPP friend couldn't deny that there was PPP racism during the Jagdeo era.
