I just lost my bet.  How much do I owe you??

U.S. President Barack Obama will nominate appellate court judge Merrick Garland to the Supreme Court on Wednesday, the White House confirmed, emphasizing his readiness for the job and history of support from Republicans and Democrats.

"No one is better suited to immediately serve on the Supreme Court," a White House official said.

"Chief Justice John Roberts, Garland’s colleague on the D.C. Circuit, once said that 'anytime Judge Garland disagrees, you know you’re in a difficult area,'” the official added.

Could be a setup. If the repubs reject Garland, then Hillary(provided she will be the next pres) can nominate Srinivasan.

I think so too....Repubs could also see this and give him a hearing...chess game

The GOP elites are now extremely terrified of a Trump win as the GOP nominee, with a Hillary win in Nov. There is a strong possibility that up to 20% of GOP supporters will refuse to support Trump.

So either they accept a supreme court nominee, with a track record in getting some GOP support, therefore a moderate, as against a more "radical left Yalie" who Hillary might pick.  This is the discussion that is going on.

Mitch McConnell is rounding up the GOP support to jump in with Trump.  They now know for sure that Trump is their man.  Not one House Republican on the floor has endorsed Cruz.  It's all strategy from here on.  If they split the GOP vote then Hillary wins and they won't let that happen.

The GOP should have learned by now that they cannot tell their supporters what to do. The GOP mainstream at this time are irrelevant.

A good swath of the decent GOP voters, the ones who have been screaming about the rightward tilt of the GOP since W Bush took over, will stay home!

Given the closeness of the votes in the few valid swing states a drop of a minute amount will be enough to secure that the GOP loses.

The reality is they lose either way. A fight at the convention splits the party. Acquiescence to Trump does the same. Moderate republicans will flee to Hillary and some will stay home. Also, even a comparison  between Trump voters and  democrats Hillary, she  is some 4 million votes ahead.

I am not worried about Trump. The DNC is already anticipating her nomination by cleaning up house and re directing staff to campaigns so she can take over.

Skelly you make a constructive point, all bets will have to be on Hillary.

That Obama is a dumb he could have made history by nominating a black genuine African American woman. After all their ancestors made up half of the American slave population.

And then the bunch of you will be screaming that blacks are taking over America.

This man has done little to obviously help blacks, and yet we hear screams of how he "hates whites".

Nah, they did and Obama was imposed on them from the fringe Left and ghettos.  They now see the price of their folly.  Similar to the misguided in Guyana who handed the PNC victory.  Now dem wringing dem hands!!

Hillary not inspiring the middle-class whites, she has a credibility gap!  They will come out for Trump, especially if Kasich is the running mate.  My belief, he (Kasich) actually is more respected than the results indicate.

So, don't count your chickens!!

BTW, Trump is actually middle of the road, not Rightist at all on social issues!  In fact, you know very well, some GOP accused him of being a Democrat!  He is bit Right on immigration and very right-on regarding the Islamist threat!  That is a vote-getter banna!!

Jump, scream and prance as you like, Obama's favorability ratings are now 51%.

At a comparable stage in his presidency Bush was a mere 20%.  So bad that the man went into hiding, came out to help his brother in SC, where his brother was soundly beaten, and had to end his campaign.  Even the GOP in SC didn't want to hear anything from the Bush family!

Here is what a decent man does.  When a McCain supporter uttered a racial epithet, McCain stopped speaking and scolded that person.

When the same thing happens in the Trump (KKK) rallies, Trump says agrees with them, and vows that PC will end when he becomes president.

I expect that under "president" Trump we will see daily depictions of blacks hanging from nooses, or in chains.

No doubt, Obama is a "nice" guy and people will say that as he is now out!!

Under a Trump presidency, Blacks will see their fortunes improve with improved skills and job opportunities.  Trump will also address the prison issues!  The flow of cheap illegal labor will slow and skilled blacks will find opportunities!

You need to stop being so racist!

Trump has never had an interest in minorities. As you have heard he called mexicans rapists and drug dealers. It is quite pathetic that you, a first generation immigrant gravitate to that immigrant hater.

Black people are not going to vote for him nor would Hispanics. They know who really has their backs and it is not him. He is not even wanted by his own people so why would those who are already philosophically different from him and who see their interest in a party other than the one he represents gravitate to him?

But this is all for naught. He will be trounced soundly by Hillary. His nasty tactics of mouthing off empty promises and grunts about how he will be t he best with no back up to his words will just earn him the necessary contempt. He is not going to win and he is ripping his party apart while destroying its down tickets. Hillary could not ask for a better gift.
