ODSC and Hearts of Oaks share spoils in friendly cricket and football matches

The Overseas Disturbance Sports Club (ODSC) which comprises Guyanese players now living in the Diaspora who are mostly former residents and sports personalities from the New Amsterdam and Canje areas in Berbice. Most of the members would travel home on a yearly basis to participate in various charity activities including, sports, educational and community activities.
On Saturday last, they (OSDC) hung up their giving gloves and donned games apparels as they engaged the Hearts of Oaks Masters (HOOM) in cricket and football activities during two clashes of overseas versus local encounters.
The games were played at the Scott Church Ground, Princess Elizabeth Road, New Amsterdam, Berbice.
At the end of the two encounters the score line read 1-1.The ODSC winning at cricket by 10 wickets and the HOOM taking the spoils at football by a 5-1 margin.
The cricket match was a thriller and it went down to the wire with ODSC winning off the last ball.
Batting first HOOM reached 48-1 in the gameβs allotted five overs per side with Richard Kellowan scoring the bulk of the runs with an undefeated top score of 35, while Zahir Moakhan was also unbeaten with 9 runs.
With over nine runs needed per over, the ODSC openers in Freddy Bradford 29*(6Γ4) and Forbes Benjamin 22*(4Γ4) kept the run rate within sight as the excitement built with every passing delivery.
With four runs needed off the final delivery for a victory, Bradford kept his cool and swung hard with the ball rocketing into the boundary to take the score to 49 without loss and victory to ODSC; wild celebrations followed.
The 60 minutes football encounter which was played immediately after saw HOOM turning the table on the ODSC, winning by a 5-1 margin. Scoring for the locals were Colin Bowry with a double, while Adrian Bess, Brian Larry and Richard Kellowan scored one goal each.
The ODSC lone strike came via the boot of Terrence Wills.
At the prize giving ceremony that followed immediately after, the football Most Valuable Player (MVP) prize went to Colin Bowry. The best goalkeeper was Kenrick Bowry, the best defender Randy Sears, best striker Adrian Bess, who all represented the local team. Terrence Wills of the overseas team was adjudged the best midfielder.
From the cricket match, the MVP award went to Benjamin, the play of the day was awarded to Bradford, best bowler was Nigel Felix, best fielder was Joan Humphrey, all of them played for the ODSC team.
Kellowan of the HOOM received the award for the most runs scored.
The winning teams and outstanding players all received trophies compliments of the ODSC.
Among those contributing to the success of the group so far are The Humphreyβs family, Colin Wilson and Family, Robert Carrington, Daniel Thomas, Valmon Hope, Wanita Hope-Phillips, Frankie Victor, Delroy Rigby, Terrence Douglas and Taff Henry among others. (Samuel Whyte)
