1. ABC/EU/CARICOM SUPPORT FOR COALITION- It matters who support the political parties, publicly or quietly. The regional, European, American and Canadian governments will support democracy, but they tacitly give their support to the coalition. They are leery about the level of corruption that existed during 23 years of PPP rule, as well as the stated intention in the PPP party’s principles expressing its intention to promote socialism.

 

 

1. SIGNS OF PEOPLE BENEFITTING FROM OIL ECONOMY- People are seeing the benefits of the oil economy, all happening under the coalition. There are over 200 local companies formed, all will benefit from the Local Content laws. They will throw their support behind the coalition.

 

1. BEING A COALITION- The coalition is a real coalition of Guyanese from all walks of life, not a one party outfit, composed of multi-racial leaders and support. That makes the coalition more representative of the Guyanese people, compared to the Indian people party (as per goat man Rohee).

 

1. PPP NOT DEMOCRATIC- the PPP still clings to democratic centralism. Jagan’s party has confused policies with dialectical materialism and confused communism with capitalism. It is not a democratic party, it is run by Marxist and Stalinist principles. All outdated stuff.

1. SMALL PARTIES WILL TAKE AWAY VOTES FROM PPP- The AFC will still capture some Indian votes (those who are disappointed with the Irfaan candidacy). Jagdeo, who spoke out in defence of women, yesterday, stated that the only act of physical violence against women he had ever been involved in was when he was a lad of 10 years and had tussles with his older sisters.
He made these remarks during a press briefing at Freedom House, Robb Street, yesterday.
At the time, he was asked about Minister of Health, Dr. Bheri Ramsaran’s confrontation with a female activist on Monday.
Jagdeo condemned the actions of his colleague. He stated, “Personally I think it should have never happened; it’s distasteful and we should never say anything about any woman, particularly women that way.”
Though he was not asked, Jagdeo volunteered, “I saw they’ve said that I beat my wife; you can ask her. Let me make it clear to everyone: I have never touched, physically abused, a single woman in my entire life, including my ex-wife.
“So that is clear, I can say it here: never, ever. I fought with my older sisters when they used to beat me up a few times but that was when I was ten years old.

“I used my fancy job title to advocate for those who had been taken advantage of and needed help, the voiceless, poor people, regardless of race, religion or political affiliation.”
She had said that this was the first country where the First Lady was “proactive, doing good for the nation but gets penalised because her husband is President and finds her work to help the same people he swore to defend and represent as ”showing up the inadequacies of his government” and therefore made me his enemy.”

The former First lady had said that she applied for 31.4 acres of land at Moraikobai to develop a hospital and complex offering a number of benefits which she had offered to buy from the Government.
“But I was told by the President that he can’t sell state land. We asked for a 99-year lease, but he said he can only give 25-year lease.”
This is in stark contrast to prime land that was given for controversial projects in more recent years.
When information was made public about the extent to which the then Head of State had reportedly ill-treated his wife, Kaieteur News had sought comments on the issue from senior female government officials.
None of them would comment. Six years later, none of the female government Minister would even say word about Jagdeo’s wife abuse.

Banna, did your uncle advise you to post this article too? Nohing in this article indict Jagdeo of anything. In fact, he stated emphatically that he never abused his wife, nay any woman. He also condemned the other minister for his actions. I love Varshnie but her listed grievances were of a divorce litigation nature. Do yourself a favor and stop taking advises from your uncle. “It is funny and sad to hear the politicians talk about the campaign against domestic violence, investing millions to “stamp it out” etc when what I am experiencing is hi-tech domestic violence and persecution.
“Our (then) President is using his office and state resources, including Ministers unprofessionally, to disadvantage a woman.”
“I have been deprived of the basics for many years, my food is taken care of by my Aunt who has a shop. My clothing, money and everything else is from my parents and family,” she had said.
She said, later, that attempts to gain independence “would somehow eventually need his approval on the business front. On the job front, I was told that no one would employ me for fear of backlash from our President.”
The former First lady had said that she applied for 31.4 acres of land at Moraikobai to develop a hospital and complex offering a number of benefits which she had offered to buy from the Government.
“But I was told by the President that he can’t sell state land. We asked for a 99-year lease, but he said he can only give 25-year lease.”
This is in stark contrast to prime land that was given for controversial projects in more recent years.
When information was made public about the extent to which the then Head of State had reportedly ill-treated his wife, Kaieteur News had sought comments on the issue from senior female government officials.
None of them would comment. Six years later, none of the female government Minister would even say word about Jagdeo’s wife abuse.

Jagdeo, who spoke out in defence of women, yesterday, stated that the only act of physical violence against women he had ever been involved in was when he was a lad of 10 years and had tussles with his older sisters.

Mosst of those are valid reasons why the PPP should lose.However, only a few reasonably will impact the electorate. The PPP's base is its ceiling. They do not care about fraud, Jagdeo's cronyism, the PPP's failure to incubate intellectuals, racism, corruption etc. The other side has not shown much of a difference on these and other issues. 

My consternation with the PPP rests on their abject and irresponsible neglect of party democracy. It is run like a coven of communists even now. I also am disgusted that the champion of the earth did not see it fit to develop as part of his manifesto a green economy given we will be dumping billions of tons of carbon into the atmosphere without oil economy. You cannot miss this fact in our gluttony for oil wealth. We are becoming the poisoner of the earth with that economy and must compensate with conservation. 

I have a 100 days plan somewhere on this site that addressed some small things ( albeit it was about 20 or 30 issues) Not one of those were addressed in their plan. We have no emphasis on pre and post natal care, no family leave, no commentary to build a bureaucratic capital on high ground, no mention of Amerindian rights, no mention of constitution reform that involves devolving power to combat our inclination to ransoming our nation to ethnic based policies.

The PPP is not trying hard given they have lots of issues mediating their chances of winning. For example, they need a PM candidate that would not pander to race but to intellect, judgement and a future for us. Further, Ali should declare if he win he will not run for a second term.
