The Guyana Olympic Association (GOA) in collaboration with the Athletics Association of Guyana (AAG) will host its Annual 10km Team Run and Fun Walk-Jog-Run on Sunday beginning at 6:00am at the YMCA, Thomas Lands.
Olympic Day is celebrated around the world on June 23 each year; the first World Olympic Day was celebrated in 1948. The celebration of Olympic Day was included in the Olympic Charter in 1978, encouraging all National Olympic Committees (NOCs) to organise activities, which promote the Olympic Movement. In 1987, 45 NOCs participated in the first Olympic Day 10km run. Following the start of the event, it will proceed north on Camp Street to Carifesta Avenue, east on Carifesta Avenue and the Rupert Craig Highway to Lilliendaal (where Marshals will indicate the turning point), west to Vlissengen Road, south on Vlissengen Road to Thomas Lands and back to the YMCA.
Prizes will be awarded for the team event. Teams must comprise four male and two female athletes. Organisations and individual members of the public are invited to participate. Registration forms can be obtained at βOlympic Houseβ, 76 High Street, Kingston or on Sunday.
The first 400 persons to arrive on Sunday morning will receive an Olympic Day 2017 t-shirt.
