Europe like every advance society have people living longer, with more free time and lots of luxury pursuits so the have fewer children after waiting late in life.

They, therefore do not need more people, especially ones they will have to feed for awhile and retrain for the most part and since most are older cannot be expected to fill technical niches. It is why nine countries refused completely to take any declaring they already have trouble taking care of their own. Others are forced to take at least 20 thousand and everyone is skeptical if this is a good thing in the long run. Germany will accept 800k but its people are already wondering. Last week there was a cry in, yes a cry in because the city of Hamburg decided to appropriate a park to build homes. Every building not used is taken over. It cannot happen elsewhere except in europe. But it is at saturation point. The US is not going to open its arms.

This is not a god send to any. It is a veritable nightmare. Next year, there will be fences from Turkey to Armenia to Finland. Bulgaria and Macedonia already said no safe passage. Lots of people will die on the Mediterranean

See what Japan is doing to combat low birth rate and a shrinking population, and know that Germany also has the ability to do it. However, there is still a great need for humans so your argument may have some validity But what are the reasons for a sustainable or growing population?

Beautiful....very few will benefit in the long run from such a large influx in such a short time

I remember an old retired investor told me a long time ago, always follow the money. I still do not quite understand what he meant...

France help to  take care of the second child. Others can do the same if they want to encourage growth. Schengen brought in a lot of people  who love large families to prosperous European zones so there is not a problem that there will be failure to replace the population. That is the planets least problem.

I do not worry about the Syrians. I worry about the Afghans and the Iraqis. Syrians are a Mediterranean people and almost indistinguishable from Greeks or Italians. They also speak English well and lived in plural secular states for a long time. They will fit in.
