It’s only in Guyana that a foreign ambassador’s open and public disrespect towards the President of a sovereign state would find support among the opposition and its supporters. This would not have been tolerated anywhere else in the world. It shows the depths those who oppose the PPP/C government are prepared to go in their quest for political power, even if it amounts to unpatriotic behavior. Would Brent Hardt have been tolerated in the U.S? Would the Republicans support a Guyanese Ambassador’s disrespect towards President Obama along with his constant partisan intrusions into US politics? Hell no!
But here in Guyana we have an opposition which has been rejected by the majority at every single election since our country’s independence. They are devoid of ideas on how to motivate their supporters and maintain their fledgling support base. As such, they often find solace in supporting anything which they feel will make the government of the day and the ruling PPP party look bad, even if it amounts to lawlessness, criminality and now the meanderings of a Jackass.
