The National Assembly has approved the supplementary appropriation of five billion dollars for the National Drainage and Irrigation Authority.
This was done after a call for individual votes in the house, in response to the APNU opposition to the appropriation.
Oversight Minister Dr. Leslie Ramsammy explained the critical nature of the D&I works funded with the monies, but was still refused by the APNU.
But a head count saw 36 voting in support of the expenditure and 26 voting against.
According to a parliamentary observer: “This vote again served as a reality check for the APNU that they are not the majority in Parliament.
“The APNU which always trumps up itself as the majority in the house, more than often forgets the AFC which is playing for the Indo-Guyanese votes”
