Under the theme: 'Safeguarding our Future: Continuing Progress', members of the PPP/C leadership took the opportunity to express gratitude to their supporters for assisting the party to remain in office and, reminded them of the challenges ahead, as the Government strive to foster national development as a minority.

President Donald Ramotar, noted that in unity there is success, he added: "When we celebrate today we celebrate your struggle because, as much as (the late) Cheddi Jagan had such powerful characteristics, he could not have achieved anything without your support and it is your support that has continued to make our achievements possible in this country."

President Ramotar declared that the biggest achievements of the PPP/C have come through the support of the ordinary citizen and the party is forever grateful to those who stood up during the struggles of the past.

‘Our biggest achievement with your support was, the return of democracy to this country and we can't put a dollar value on that and we also can't put a price to freedom because, without freedom, we cannot achieve anything,’ he alluded.

"We have to celebrate, we have to feel happy and we have to renew our energies; every step of the way has been a struggle. We did it the people's way; we did it your way and that is why we have been able to sustain for 21 years," he pointed out.

d2, mitjuanita and the other afc/pnc supporters would have us believe that the pnc were the champions of democracy during their tenure, now they want to put these dogs back into power to bring back rice flour and guylines back to Guyana.

Guyana does not have a democracy. Please read SN editorial and Dr TK's comment on the Stabroek blog:

"The people have been denied local government elections for 19 years. The PPP has taken the glorious return to democracy in 1992 and convert it to a semi-democracy at best. With a foreign government building up the spy capacity of the PPP, without the involvement of local police, you have the further erosion of democracy and the freedom of people. The opposition is completely excluded from the state media even though their supporters also pay the taxes necessary to keep NCN and Chronicle alive. The President uses state resources to campaign. Guyana has free and unfair elections. Let us not forget the PPP has usurped the democratic process in its internal party elections. The votes many leaders like Mr Nagamootoo, Mr Ramkarran and Mr Nandalall did not count as these party stalwarts were excluded from the Executive Committee. This is akin to rigging an election. Do not for one minute believe that Mr Jagdeo and President Ramotar believe in democracy. They will support democracy once it suits them and the special business interests of their friends and families. Also let us remember that Mr Vincent Alexander was able to prevent GECOM from giving the PPP the majority of seats even though it did not get the 51% votes. The only political party today with democratic and free open internal election is APNU. Let's give credit where it's due."
