I was informed by concerned parents of students who are about to sit the Grade Six Assessment Examinations that Ministry of Education now requires the students to state their name, date of birth, gender and name of their School on their answer sheets . Previously, each student was assigned a number and that number was required to be used as the only form of identification for the students.

This mechanism was to clothe each answer sheet with anonymity in order to prevent the markers from knowing the students and to generally protect the integrity of the examination process . This position obtains in respect of almost all exams of this type across the world, including, in the Caribbean. The parents are questioning the reason and rationale for this sudden change and are, understandably, fearful that the integrity of the local examination process is being undermined. Bluntly put, they fear that this change may expose some students to discrimination and some may benefit from favoritism. The Ministry of Education must offer and explanation on this sudden and unannounced change as soon as possible !
